Things I would like to do once I move to Chennai!

I have always wanted to learn to play the Mridangam. I will be staying in T. Nagar. Would anyone happen to know of any musical training schools, etc in T. Nagar?

I would also love to buy a 100/150 cc bike (My wife is totally against this and feels I need to have my head examined.. she is probably right).. As I never worked in India, I never had to chance to buy my dream Yamaha 100 cc bike (all my friends used to have it ). All that I ever rode while growing up, was my dad's Vespa!

Splendid!

I'd suggest that you have a word with one of your favourite mridangists, after a concert, and see if they take students, or who they would suggest if they do not teach. One advantage of this approach is that you will learn the school of playing that appeals to you.

hmmm.. not a bad idea. However, I am not into classical music at all and I rarely go to concerts. Sometimes, even I cant explain my obsession with playing the mridangam though!

I did find this forum that discusses carnatic music a lot - in case you or others might be interested..

Not sure if its ok to post other forum links here.. If its taboo.. excuse me!

I have been a member of rasikas since it started, I think, having belonged to another carnatic forum before it, that closed down. In fact my internet association with carnatic music even touches rec.music.indian.classical --- before the WWW!

Thanks, VJ. And have a great time on the HD as well. Taking of HDs, Its so weird... I have always wanted to own a bike, and last december, when my wife and I went to India, we stopped over in Dubai to meet with some friends. I bought a raffle for a 7 series BMW and made my wife buy one for a HD VRSCAW VROD. In march, my wife gets a call from Dubai Duty Free (at 3 AM in the morning). She had won the VROD! DDF was willing to ship the bike anywhere in the world. But seeing as we were thinking about moving to India shortly anyway, we just had the bike sold there. I can see myself buying a bike (pending wife's approval, ofcourse) as soon as I get my Indian bike license.

I just googled a HD Sportster1200. You're a lucky man! The closest Indian version would be a Thunderbird Twinspark? (Seriously, No offense AT ALL to HD). But I DO love those old bullets.. If only I could get that one in a thousand that doesnt leak oil all over
