I have spoken to the Tamil teacher and agreed on the following:

We will have the first meeting on April 3rd at 6 pm, at Stacey's house. If you want the address, just PM her. He is only available in the morning from 8.30 to 9.45, because his evenings are already filled with other obligations and students.

We have agreed that he teaches reading and writing, and conversational Tamil.

The price is Rs. 300 for a single student, Rs. 350 for two students and Rs. 500 for a grouplesson, irregardless the number of students. So the more people join, the cheaper the classes are.

We don't have to buy any books, only a white- or black board, which we will take care of.

Thanks for the reply!
The problems of doing straight work. The client expects to see me mornings at 9am, so I will have to bow out.
Let me know if things change to evenings.

I am also interested in evening course in Tamil

Hi, Johhny (and anyone else who may be interested),

I am also working at a "regular" job, and so am looking for a Tamil class which is taught in the evenings. If you are still interested, drop a line here.

thanks,

Mark

Thought I'd share and excerpt from a relevant article in today's Deccan Chronicle:

"For instance, Alliance Francaise of Madras has taken the initiative to start Tamil classes for expats in Chennai, in order to help them synchronise better with the city. Marie-Paule Serre, the director of Alliance Francaise of Madras says, “We get several enquiries from people asking us about places in Chennai where expats can learn Tamil. As we conduct French classes for more than 3,000 students here, we thought why not start classes for the expat community as well? Of course, the community is growing at a rapid pace in the city. The classes are set to commence shortly. We have several enthusiastic students and a dedicated faculty for the same.”
