Settling back after a long time, DIFFERENCES

Hello friends,

Recently we shifted from Aurangabad to Chennai. Our ancestors and all relatives are from Chennai, Vellore, and my parents were outside since past 30 yrs coz of work, so never got to visit chennai, I was born and bought up in Aurangabad , Maharashtra, so when I visited chennai now, felt a major difference, even though I am a tamilian dont know to read, write tamil can only speak, and that too speak in diff way away from the local chennai ppl, so many ppl here keep asking me that are you seth (gujrati), telugu etc etc ...

Now let me point out the + and - points of this city,,,

as compared with Aurangabad. which is a very small city....

As chennai is metro the most thing which I like is facilities, transportation, eating out, etc , if you cant cook just walk a min and there are restaurants, and in every area, everything is available... so no need to go to some specific area for buying something.

In aurangabad you had specific areas where only you can get those specific goods.

People in chennai are more money minded and choosy, the watchman expects me to give him loan of 100 rs which I doubt whether he will return it or not, I did not give him, people expect tips everywhere, I have not experienced this that much in abad.

Now since I came to Chennai, I hate those autowalas and their atrocities, charging 40 - 50 rs for a 2km ride which normally costed around 15- 20 in my city.

Person came to fix BSNL connection took installation charges of 200 rs , inspite of free installation.

Bought new fridge and delivery person demanded that

WE POTU KUDU TO HIM SOMETHING ,, , and for these people they dont believe in earning by hardwork, and anything below 50 is mere amt for them, I usually tell such ppl , that to give me 20 - 30 rs, as that is not mere amt for me,, ;-0

today best shock is gave my vehicle servicing to authorised hero honda dealer , and while taking delivery that mechanic was too explaning what he did to my bike, andexpected tips, told him not to ask,, and did not give mee,was planning to complain to supervisor,, dealer,, manager, that to tell those bloody mechanics to not force for tip...

and the attitude of people is same everywhere,, only thing is my city being small city people cheated less, were more free, or dildaar,
Will update more as I get to live in chennai

Hee hee... I am very fond of this city, but, of course I get fed up with the same things too. I could add that, often, as well as demanding money, there is a complete lack of professionalism, and if one points out that the job was done badly, you just get a laugh, and the hand remains outstretched.

Somehow, though, it is encouraging to know that not all India (I've only live here) is like this.

Please, do continue to post your impressions. It is interesting to see Chennai through the eyes of an Indian newcomer

My diary of today the 5 october 2009,,

Bad morning yesterday had told the roadside paper shopkeeper to put hindu newspaper, he came yesterday and told that he will keep paper down, but we insisted that to come up (2 first floor) and keep near main door, he did not agree and we did not hire him, but that fool came today morning and told us to give 20 rs extra, we told when other person will be ready to come to 1 floor and put paper, why to hire you, and had argument with him in morning. He told me that I did not make it clear while telling him. That fool spoiled my mood earlier.

Today after bath wanted to go out , went down and just took my bike and noticed it had a puncture, the roadcorner shopkeeper agreed to repair it, but he had normal puncture only, whereas in Aurangabad even for two wheelers they did heat puncture. So I was peculiar about heat puncture, so the person told if I want heat puncture I need to go to main road GST Rd, there in GST road I asked some 2-3 shops and found the shop who repairs with heat puncture he usually repairs tyres punctures of trucks n heavy vehicles, still I thought in aurangabad it was 15 here it might be 20 - 25 bucks but my shock that @#@#@$ charged 60 rs, I wanted to argue, but could not, a tube of bike costs around 220 rs and i had to pay 60 rs for puncture.

Then total mood off, went to my uncles factory, and from there my uncle took surprise visit to marudangadam (dont know exact spelling) where a famous ram temple is there, had to drive around 120 km on bike to and fro, and we went on my bike and i only did the driving, route was GST road - tambaram - vandaloor - urupakkam - chengelputtu - gudvancherry and the place, while on route went to vedanthangal bird sanctuary where there are exotic species of birds, but that closed at 5 itself and we reached at 5.30, then reached chromepet at around 7.30, all a tiring day and while on route driving fast lost my mobile pouch.

Two things I hate, the paperwala and the puncture shopkeeper, feel like killing those two people.

Time will add plenty more people to your "hit list"!

Chennai has the reputation of being safe and easygoing, but I think we can also say that it is a place where professionalism is hard to find, and the desire to make a quick buck is ever present.

Which makes for a peculiar mix of pleasant and maddening!

true, professionalism is too hard to find, rarely found any professional people, today one person called me as he had opening in his company , and I am searching for a job, so he was more interested in knowing the reason why I shifted from from Aurnagabad to Chennai rather than discussing about the work profile.

Dear RSK,

Heat Punture is required only if your tube is damaged to more than 2-3 MM.

Normal puntures are taken care by a simple sticker and trust me, It works well. Heating a tube will actually weaken it.

Anyway, about the two fools who irritated you....?

Welcome to chennai. I think your hitlist will increase pretty soon.

Did you happen to see a Huge water tank (Which is more than half empty now) in Maduranthakam.

Once the tank was about to break due to heavy rains and Lord Ram himself built a wall using his bows to stop the water. That's why Madurantakam temple is called "Yeri kaatha Ramar koil"
It means, "Temple of Ram who saved the lake" in tamil.

And yes, Bird Sanctuary closes by 5 PM becasue that's when the birds come back to nest. So naturally we cant disturb them.

Hope you enjoyed your drive in NH-45. Please stick to the left most lane while using the national highways as the vehicles (Cars, Buses and Lorries) really fly through that road. And I do hope you were wearing a helmet while driving.

Right from my childhood in my earlier city I was accustomed to heat punctures, be it small or big, the puncture shop used to do heat puncture for all twowheelers, so was peculiar about heat puncture, and was worried about stability of normal puncture. And see the destiny after doing this puncture had to travel around 120 Kms on NH45.

I wore helmet while driving to the place, but while comming no helmet, Iactually feel trapped in helmet since in all my driving experience never wore helmet and first time wearing helmet, feel ackward, no large view of road, restricted eyesight, and noise. NH45 route is as smooth as cushion, and I drove good, my uncle was there to guide me, he also mentioned me to keep left.

Ya you are correct it is Maduranthakam. and the temple too is yeri katha ramar koil, initially some problems will come with name, too long and complicated to pronounce.

Today went to pallavaram weekly market ,usually a bargain market, can buy all sorts of junk, furniture, old scrap, vegetables etc,,,

found lots of sellers selling small ducks, ( ya they looked like ducks) exotic birds, eagles, I am sure it must be eagle coz the little bird looked very dangerous, and parrots, sellers selling fishes in polythene bags, plastic covers, goldfishes all types of fishes also saw parrots for 150 bucks, dam cheap ,, but mom wont allow me to buy them., so if anyone of you need some exotic pets ,then better visit pallavaram any friday, n checkout the market. ;p

You got to be little careful in pallavaram market..

Things what you see will not be the same when you see at home.

There are several crooks who change the packs and they will vanish even before you know.

That area will be swarming with pickpocketers too.

RSK,

Check your tyre first and then change your tube. If the tyre is worn out, there are more chances of your tube getting hit by small stones, nails etc.

Also, most of the guys who vulcanize the tyres, fail to remove the nail which is inside the tyre. They need to check it or you should ask them to check the tyre before fixing the tube inside.

First and foremost, try checking the pin in the Air point. Even pins gets rusted and starts to let the air out. There are more options that you may have a new puncture. I doubt if there is going to be a leak from a old one.

Check it out...By the way, who is this guy who did the vulcanizing for your tyre...? Where is he located...?

Height is these people dont even have bucket full of water for checking punctures, all he did is put his ear and look for air leaks, there was a big puncture and he did remove the thorn which was the reason for puncture. This guy whom i got my puncture repaired was in Nanganallur, and i had passed thru GST Rd, enroute the tyre got punctured.

Now Instead of going again to Puncture wala I am going to directly replace the tube, enough yaar, cant take risks, as such punctures are unreliable. And punctures costs exceeding the tube costs? then what is the use?
