Newbie needs advice
Hello friends,
here I am - another newbie -. Inshallah i will move to Chennai next month. Yesterday I returned from my house-hunting trip to Chennai (39 properties within three days . I was astonished what is available in the market, I have seen luxury 30.000 INR apartments and shabby apartments in the range of 220.000 INR . At the end I fall in love with a small bungalow, I fall in love mainly because of the nice garden. The bungalow comes along with a pool, perfect size for a foodbath in the evening. The rental of 70.000 INR seemed to me OK but now where the landlord came to details.... There will be some extras for pool maintenance (4000 INR monthl.) gardener 3.500 INR monthl., maid and guard on a shared basis with the landlord (2.800 INR).Is it just a feeling or is it true - the landlord wants to rip me off. I would be happy if somebody could give me an advice on such kind of maintenance charges. with regards |

Yep. He is trying to rip you off.
Normally, when you rent, you pay for the employees or help you want for your house- and you decide what you want and how much to pay for it, because you employ them. He will probably ask you to pay cash for these services, and not declare the amount to tax- or give a separate cheque under another (non rent) heading.

I don't like the look of the pool maintenance... otherwise, it sounds OK but what worries me is not the amounts, but the fact that you won't have control over your staff, to hire or fire if necessary.
Things seem to change daily in the Chennai property market, but last I heard, rentals was a buyer's market, so maybe you could get this house you want on better terms. Very interesting to read your comments that some of the very expensive stuff was shabbier than the just-expensive stuff. I think people here tend to get fixed ideas about what stuf is worth. Welcome to the site . Please keep us updated on your experiences! |
