Moving to Chennai - help!!!
I'm thinking of moving my family to Chennai to take up a project at Sriperumbudur. Have heard that the travel time from Chennai central to Sriperumbudur can be anywhere up to 1.5 hours one way. Are there any nice areas that are closer to Sriperumbudur. We have a two year old son, and would if possible like to be reasonably close to medical facilities.

She showed me on my South India map: half way to Kanchipuram. Her advice is that you can find facilites in Tamburam or Kanchipuram. (Mrs Nick is a native chennaite) Welcome to IndiaMike

From Mrs Nick's response I take it living in Chennai would become a drag with the travel to work. Will check out these other areas.

Hi
Actually both Tambaram and Kanchipuram are farther to Hyundai than Chennai city itself. The closer places to stay are Poonamalee (towards Chennai) or Sriperumbudur (Towards Kanchi) but they are semi-rural / small townish. The nicer places to stay will be between Chennai suburb called Porur (closer to Hyundai, still mofussil ) and Vadapalani (proper city with posh apartments and houses). The distance maybe about 20 Kms. There is a big hospital in Porur called Sri Ramachandra Medical college Hospital with major facilties. HTH Slakhs |

hi
slakhs is right. anywhere on (areas adjoining) the main Arcot road between vadapalani and porur is fine. lots of medical and urban facilities incl. vijaya hospital etc. regards kas |
