Hi Anand,

I am not sure how familiar you are with Choolaimedu. its certainly not an area which in my opinion Monica would not prefer. Califiornia to Choolimedu no way.

Except Gill Nagar the three streets, the rest of the place would not be suitable..Moreover I remember Monica mentioniong in one of her posts that she would prefer not to commute much. Moreover working in an NGO she would not get a fancy salary and it would be difficult to spend on travel costs.

Raghu

Anyways... I Would suggest you take up some Accommodation in Choolemeedu or Nungabakkam as its a good Residential area. Its around 4 Kms from Teynampet.Plus I knew a bunch of exchange students from US who lived there. Not really sure if they are still in India,But then there are a lot Exchange student living in chennai. You could search other forms.I stay in Kilpak.

In case you need any more information u write to this forum or share ur Email Id,Somehow I have found that the forum is a lot less active recently.

Roommates / apts

Hi Raghu,

This may seem like a duplicate post, I just realized -- but I thought my question was more directed at the experience of sharing roommates in Chennai. However, I suppose I was repeating my request for information -- I must be more anxious for information than I realized.

As for comparing Chennai & California...that's a silly exercise, I agree. I've traveled to Chennai & Pondicherry before and both cities left good impressions on me. Chennai is a wonderful place to be for development and non-profit work as well.

As for neighborhoods, Raghu is absolutely correct -- I would prefer not to commute far, though living nearer to the sea is sounding more and more attractive. Any opinions?

Finally, it is true that I'll be working for a NGO, however I'll be making a decent salary, I believe, by most standards -- approx 9 lakhs per annum. Not enough for expat level extravagance, but plenty for me.

Hope this helps. Thank you all, again, for the info & advice you give!

Looking for roommates & apartments in Besant Nagar/Adyar or nearby

Hi all,

I posted to this thread almost a year ago, and now I am looking for a new apartment again! My office is moving to IIT so I am looking for something in southern Chennai (preferably Besant Nagar or Adyar, but I am open to areas farther afield). I am also looking for roommates again, so please let me know if you are interested! Preference would be for someone who is staying for at least 1 year, and who doesn't mind dogs.

Monica - I am also from California, and have been working for an NGO here for almost a year. When are you moving to Chennai, and have you found a place and/or roommates yet? Email me at joanne dot sprague at gmail if you're still looking.

Thanks,
Joanne

Hi folks,

As you will see from another recent post (http://www.indiamike.com/india/movin...2/#post752869), IndiaMike no longer accepts flatshare/accommodation share posts, because there was just too much commercial activity going on through them.

This thread is now therefore closed - sorry for any disappointments.
