Kolkata to Chennai in 30 Days.
Hello,
I have been a member of IM for 2 months now. I found this site very useful. I got help from IMers for my recently concluded North sikkim trip.
I am switching job and relocating to Chennai with a new job in an IT company. Will be moving to Chennai on 7th of March. Initially I looked for the required information in the existing threads. Failed to get any and thus this new thread.
The Company I am joining is having their office in Old Mahaballipuram Road, Sozhinganallur. I am aged 31, will be relocating with my wife aged 25. I have a budget of 5-7k for rent of a 2BHK apartment. Now some of the queries….
1. I need some info about this place Sozhinganallur. Such as, its distance form the important places of the City, accessibility etc. )
2. Where shall I look for accommodation in Chennai, so that I can stay near my Office. (The place should not be very desolate).
3. The likely rents in the suggested places (if possible).
4. Some knowledge required on Potable water of Chennai.
5. How far is this place form Mahaballipuram?
6. Anything I should know about relocating to Chennai and have missed out mentioning here.
I am really looking forward to you all IMers for help...
Please help me as you have helped many in this site.

Suggest you check out Wikimapia to get an idea of lie of the land. You'll find your place on this page. Google Earth has higher resolution, but Wikimapia is better for searching.
Do buy a copy of the Eicher Chennai City Map to help you find your way around when you get here, but Sozhinganallur is too far to the South to figure in that book. Maybe if they'd gone one or two more pages to the South.
Getting hold of the map book and using the Wikimapia/Google Earth will give you a better idea of where the local places are. Probably be better for you to live near your work, though you may well consider that to be 'out in the sticks'.
It's a bit of a wild guess on my part, as I've only been to that village once, but I'd say it's maybe an hour drive out of the city.
I would have thought your rental budget would get something nice, perhaps even a small house, that far out, so long as you stay away from the sea-side wealth/ex-pats spots!
Mahabalipuram... two hours? guessing again.
Trying to help, but you can see my knowledge is getting thin here --- we need one of the true Chennai-ite IMers for better info!
There's heaps of information on Chennai in general in this forum and in the Expats forum. Quite a lot especially on the water situation.

Thanx Nick,
I have been consulting some friends as well. They suggest that Adyar would be the best location for me. This place would be some 10-12 KM from my office. And is also quite close to the sea.
Can any body else corroborate this or can I have some other suggestion please.
Nick where do you live, if I may ask?
