Jobs near Chennai?

I've been working in Hyderabad for the past 2 months but the company I've been working for has went out of business. I'm away to Sri Lanka for 4 weeks then I land back in Chennai in mid January. From then on I have no idea where to go or what to do. I am living on a tight budget but would be very willing to volunteer if shelter and food could be provided. My visa runs until May. Can anybody help?

You could try ashrams, as they possibly provide shelter and food in return for work.

I think most NGOs do not provide shelter and food for volunteers.

If you have an employment visa, which you should have to legally be employed in the country, you should be aware that your visa is dependent on the job for which it was issued, is valid only as long as that job continues, and cannot be transferred to another job.

(Unless you are an Indian citizen, PIO or OCI, of course)

Thanks mirjamd - I may try the ashrams and see if I can find some voluntary work on the www.the7interchange.com site. In terms of the visa - I payed for the employment one, had the correct documents but they gave me a 1 year multiple entry tourist visa by mistake. what a blessing in disguise! Thanks for your replies.
