I guess you can get sufficient leads from those websites. You might have to regester amd upload your resume. As Nick rightly ponted out, your employer in India has to sponsor your work visa and you would have to apply from your country of residence at the respective Indian High Commission.

Is your Girl Friend joining the American School here ?

Regards, Raghu
Yes sir (or ma'am?)! I believe its called the "American Int'l School"?

Aloha AlohaKona,

Go on a tourist visa first brah! Checkout the place, meet some people, make connections, try the excellent South Indian food and as they say in Hawaii hang loose for a while. If you like the place, things will materialize for you. If you don't like the place, it will be a great experience!

Alohaguy! Mahalo for the tips. Yes, I'm keeping a positive outlook no matter my outcome. I'm a social worker in Hawaii so "networking" is just part of job as well

But hey, wondering if you know/knew of an international shipping company from Hawaii that ships door-to-door vs port-to-port?? I found a company called DHX/DGX but wanted to find more quotes. Thx in advance

Find the international shipping company in India: they will have connections all over the world.

That's what I did with my move UK -> Chennai. The UK end was done by a UK company, but everything was run by the Chennai company.

You just need everything packed in one house and unpacked in another: no need to worry about what goes on in between, and certainly no need to worry about stuff like customs clearance in India.

The lady who handled our case now does cargo only, and it would be a different office for Mumbai anyway.

Her husband works for a company that does domestic: drop me a PM if you want a phone number. She did such a good job for us we became friends, although have been out of touch, until yesterday, for a few months.

Hi Alohakona,

Where do you want to ship the goods to ? If its a small consignment you can airlift it, otherwise you can send it an LCL or a FCL depending upon the volume of goods.

Hi Alohakona,

Guess I am a bit off track, as I asked you a question regarding where u r going to ship your goods. Its obviously Chennai and I was so dumb in asking it again.

You may try www.Universalrelocations.com as they have an office in the US and in Chennai. You can log on to their website and request for a free estimate. There is a lady by name Manisha, pl refer my name if you wish. I have recommended their services to many expats who have used their services and are satisfied customers. Another option is Crown Relocations, but they may be expensive than Universal.

Hope you had a look at the websites I had posted earlier. You may also try the below.

http://www.lathahr.com/

Hope the above helps.

Raghu

I'm amazed at the extent of their hospitality to arrange everything for us. But i'm sure I'll be asking more questions on this forum from time to time regarding India life aspects

As for the HR consultants you mentioned, that would be very helpful if you can pass those along? Right now, any advice is good advice

Nick-H, thanks for the heads up on the employment visa. I'm having my girlfriend check with her school sponsor about that since i'll be arriving under the same visa (i think?)

But good point about teaching english. I figure my other option to "spend time" is to volunteer my time somewhere.

Thanks all for the tips... keep'em coming!

Hi Alohakona,

Are you guys not coming on a pre view trip ? that would help to finalise the accommodation etc. Is the school taking care of finding an apartment or do you have to do it yourself ? do let me know if you want any help on that side.

Regards, Raghu

Howzit, Alohakona, I was out for a few days. I shipped my stuff to Japan in September 2008 through Wespac in Honolulu. Your shipment will first go to West coast and then anywhere in the world.

Contact is John Namba at 227-6683 (Cell) 845-9711 (Office). These are Oahu numbers. John will come, look at your stuff and give you a quote. They might have someone on the big Island. We talked to all big names who advertise on TV etc. Finaly found this shipper through a friend who shipped his stuff to Seattle.

Take it easy!

Shipping

One more thing. Whichever company you use, your stuff will stay in their warehouse on the west coast till they can gather a full container. Then it will be shipped to India or anywhere. There is not much shipping traffic between US and India. You may have to wait almost 3 months before your stuff arrives in India.

Ship only the kind of things you don't need right away. You will need a lot patience.

Take care man!
Aloha.

...if you are shipping on a shared-container basis, yes. If you are having a whole container to yourself, which would not be unusual for a house move, then it won't be delayed waiting for anyone else. It can still take a few weeks, though.
