Question Guesthouse / Appartment for 3months (Oct-Dec 2008) ?

Hi there,

I am still thinking about my accomodation possibilities in Chennai, as I am heading to Chennai in October for a 3month stay (till xmas).

Is it possible to find a decent and furnished 2bedroom appartment in Chennai for lets say max. 10.000 INR / month?

I'd need a whole basic equipped appartment. So, kitchen basically equipped, rooms furnished and an internet connection would be fine.

Do you think it's possible to find such an accomodation? Perhaps you've some hints for me, contact-persons or anything like that
It'd be really really kind... I am 22yo, student and from Germany. Accomodation should be somewhere around Adyar.

Bye, Simon

Apartments around adyar for a 2bdr is going to be hard to find... you might be able to find a 1bdr room apt.. but I think you will see the kitchen is not exactly what you think it is etc.. and short terms rentals are difficult to find...

Looks like your thread got lost until today!

Not long ago, 10,000 was plenty to get a nice place in Chennai. I had a nice 2-bed place for only 6,000. Now my old place is worth 12,000, and a 3-bed flat in a new house in the same road has just been let for over 30,000.

Furnished is unusual too, and likely to be true of higher-end places. You will need to buy yourself a bare minimum of furniture and kitchen stuff, and you will need to arrange your own phone line and internet. You also need to pay huge advanace deposits --- like ten months rent.

And I agree with Jimbo; short term rents are not really there, apart from serviced apartments which would be very expensive.

Unfortunately, as the others said, you won't find a furnished place for 10,000 anywhere, unless you want to live on the far outskirts of the town (which I wouldn't recommend).

It might be an idea to look out for somebody who needs a roommate, and who has furnished his or her apartment. Buying everything for three months doesn't really seem worth it.

I do not know what you are looking for exactly, but there is also paying guest accomodation available. Then you will have a room in somebody's house. It might not be ideal for everybody, but if you are ok with staying with somebody and adjusting at times, it can be a good deal.

Thanks a lot for retaking my thread up :-)

Seems as if I'd need to find someone who is willing to share his/her appartment with me. Luckily I've got already an accomodation for the first two weeks in Mylapore. During this "orientation time" I hope to find another accomodation.

Some advise might be to look for accommadations from people who don't live in Chennai all the time and look to rent thier flats while travelling.

My husband and I own a flat in Besant Nagar (near Adyar). It is much more expensive than you're looking for, but it is exactly what you're looking for. Fully furnished, fully stocked kitchen, internet connection etc. and we ONLY rent it short term because my husband travels there every three months. I'll ask my husband where he advertises our flat, because I know the site specializes in short term rentals.

thanks for your efforts.
I'd be also willing to pay more money. I mean it seems as if prices have risen a lot .. especially regarding serviced appartments.

You can contact me under my email

Thanks in advance!

My husband is travelling outside of Chennai this weekend. So, I'll find out the name of the short-term rental site and post it on Monday.
