Smile finding things in chennai

Okay folks, the countdown is on...we leave in about a month! Here are a few questions:

Can you by propane camping cylinders (for laterns)? We have a charcoal grill that uses one to get the charcoal going. If not can you get charcoal lighter?

I like to sew and am looking for a spray adhesive in an aersole can and am not sure if I can take in checked bags or not. Any ideas if I could check it or are there any places where I might find it?

Do you suggest we bring US batteries or they available over there?

Thanks so much! We did secure a lovely house off of the ECR. Not a huge garden but there will be a great pool!

Thanks everyone.

We just had our air and sea shipments packed, and we were told NO batteries were aloud. But I'm sure some were still in toy's and other things.

Propane is not a widely available product, an alternative to that is LPG, but I am not sure if your equipment can handle LPG.

Nope, you might not find the spray adhesive in any stores, but sewing is a popular hobby in India so you can find someone in your church group who can give you more information.

You can get every single battery there; you can even get the same brand.

Good luck; keep us posted on how life treats you in Chennai.

Batteries, as in good Duracell batteries, are expensive here, so if you can sneak a few boxes in!

Even better, bring rechargables. I haven't had good results from the ones that I've bought here, even though they are Japanese brand (Sanyo) and I can see no sign of theme being forged. They just don't seem to have any 'shelf life'; charge them up, and the next day they are flat --- whereas the ones I bring from UK I can still use a week later,

Thanks for the battery suggestion. I wondered if the rechargeable would work with a voltage converter...remember my husband stocked up on enough power gadgets for the whole street! I think that the propane and LPG might be almost the same thing. So can you get that in small cannister? In the states we can use them in laterns, torches and our grill.

How do you like the slingbox? Does the signal come in pretty clear? And ideas of what you upload and download speeds are?

It sounds like you just moved, how is it going? We arrive in January.

Thanks!

We are arriving to Chennai on January 5th. But my mind is already there in India. We got the basic slingbox (one time purchase and not monthly fee) and it works great. I suggest you go ahead and and set it up before you leave the states. It seems simple, but we needed get another DVR/cable box so that it would not interfere with what the host would be watching. But all in all it works great. You can go to slingbox website and see it FAQ to see speed and other items. Email me directly if you have additional questions. (rtaylor@triumphboats.com)
