We currently have nothing but the basic stuff that comes free without even having a set-top box, but I don;t think you will get any of the stuff you are hoping for.
BBC World is a semi-commercial news-and-repeats channel. Sport, I don't know because I don't like it. Basically you are going to be getting Indian channels here. If the question was I'm moving to Chennai, will I be able to watch the news in Bengali?......! Satellite is relatively new. Providers include Tatasky and Airtel. Search the web for consumer complaints before buying: I seem to remember one company making a habit of charging for support calls whether or not it solved the problem! Traditionally, Chennai has been weighed down by cable. You wake up in the morning and find they've strung another three across your terrace! There will be a local supplier who charges you money, a set-top box, and a card to plug into it to get the channels you are paying for. The picture quality is often poor, sometimes dreadful. It's a good thing I'm an internet boy, rather than a TV boy! |

The gadget buyer in me would do just that --- but it would be a waste of money in the end, as I still would hardly watch it.

In Chennai, the satellite TV providers are Sun, Doordarshan, Dish TV, Tata Sky, Reliance Big TV and Airtel Digital TV. They provide BBC World, For sports, there is ESPN, Star Sports and a few other channels mostly airing cricket matches.

Hi,
You can get most of the channels by buying Tata Sky or Dish Tv. If you are looking for Imported food items try Ammanana opp.Park Sheraton .Local Vegetables can be bought from any good food store. |

Hi
Well we have landed and what a week it has been. we are in serviced accom at the mo and its dreadful, we should move into our new apt. next sat......fingers crossed. we are at the boat club in a new build. Ammanama..have checked it out and for now it will have to do as I am still finding my feet. Found a grocery store in Spences Mall and a place called Gourmet (got HP sauce from here). My husband is handling the operations of a new mall called Express. It will have more shops to accommodate us expats hehe. I follow hubby where ever he goes as i run a website full time and can work from almost anywhere (site name is www.expatsreunite.com) Ihave not made any new friends here yet so if you want to drop me a line then please do through the website. We have been expats now for just over 10 yrs. Did 8 yrs in Bahrain and just under 2 in China. All our kids are back in the UK so time here can be lonely. Hope to hear from a few members soon :O) ta ta for now |

Hey, where's "Gourmet"? I'm always looking for shops that will sell comfort food!
You should definitely check out the Indiamike Chennai Meetups--there's one this Saturday. You can find the thread in the "Chennai" forum. |
