Dog friendly guesthouse/hotel?

Great to find an active forum that really works. Thanks!

My question......

I need a dog friendly guesthouse/hotel, cheap, in Chennai for a few weeks while I chase up a more permanent long-stay apartment from the leads I have received on this forum.

Maeha is a Toogle (Terrier/Poodle cross), small, friendly, house trained, doesn't bark, doesn't bite!

Any pointers will be welcome!

I have also read the other threads regarding bringing dogs into India and it really is not my ideal to bring her with us. I have spent the last month looking for a good home for her but with no success. Looks like she's stuck with us.

Thanks!

It is very difficult to find a place that accepts animals (well trained or otherwise) in Chennai, that to cheap. You might want to check out some of the bigger hotels since they are more accommodating for a price. Also, the level of canine medical care is not good in Chennai so you will have to be careful with her.

Sorry, but hope you have a good trip.

Surely your dog is a 'Toodle' not a 'Toogle'???

Arrow Think Hard

Think hard before you bring your pooch to India. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

There's a vet's surgery near where I live. People are often turning up in big cars with their dogs, if that's any kind of recommendation ...

In the, hopefuly unlikely event, you need such a thing drop me a PM and I'll give directions.

TBH, neither would I. In fact I wouldn't recommend putting an animal through a flight: it's bad enough for us humans in economy class

Pet friendly hotels in India do not advertise such services. And there are not many to begin with.

You have to shortlist hotels and ask. Generally the less expensive the hotel, the more flexible they are likely to be. Offer them some extra money.

Chennai has a Blue Cross .... worst case scenario you could get a kennel recommended. But I wouldnt really advise this (my dog got tick infested and anaemic at a Calcutta kennel), or a flight for a pet for that matter.

Sorry, I can't read your version of English. WHOA! I just worked out the final sentence!!! Sorry: hope you get a new laptop real soon Apparently it is one of the features of English language that one can completely misspell it (like I do) or even leave out heaps of letters and people's brains can still work it out

I knew a girl here a while back who used to work with street dogs. She said that there were a number of shelters like blue cross, but due to lack of funding they were unable to inoculate against basic diseases, and often healthy dogs taken there would die.

I recognise the word 'Broadlands' in your post. I understand they don't offer accomodation to Indians... so maybe they take dogs

Do you know if some of the "chain" hotels accept dogs?

My son has made many sacrifices (material and emotional) during our frequent moves. I go back and forth on this issue. I don't want to create a bad situation for our golden retriever (Kramer) and I don't want my son to have to give him up. Especially due to the fact that Kramer was our son's "reward" when we came back from living in England for 3 years. We plan to have family take care of our two cats while we're in India.

If cost is less of an issue, are there hotels that accept having a pooch as a guest?

Kind regards,

Danie

Choice, and possibly Starwood

I've been doing a little more research on this topic tonight. I'm not sure if you found what you're looking for but here's what I found...

Choice Hotels, such as Comfort Inn and Quality Inn both accept pets. I read that All Starwood hotels permit pets but when I tried to book a hotel room at Sheraton or Le Meridian in Chennai no rooms were available "with pets".

If I find anything else out, I'll let you know!

Kind regards,

Danie

I am not sure about that info. I don't have Sheraton in mind as pet friendly. I use 4 guidebooks for this and know that it varies a lot between properties for Comfort Inn as well..

My post got lost. Awful news, both the Quality & Comfort Inns of Chennai don't. Sheraton does in some properties but not there. I believe you would be able to succeed if you call other places and "negotiate". The places I found in India that advertised they did accept pets were well out of my range (Taj for example)..

Thanks for the info.

Some of my husband's co-workers that have moved to Chennai and Bangalore brought dogs with them. I'll see if I can find out where they stayed with their dogs while they were waiting for their housing.

Kind regards,

Danie
