| Chennai: UPS? Hi can anyone direct me to where I can find a UPS (uninterrupted power supply)probably a 1500W? I tried Mercy Elect and they were quite pricey. Any other suggestions? Thanks! Last edited by machadinha; Feb 6th, 2008 at 12:43.. Reason: adjusted title |

| UPS of 1500W would be very pricey compared to normal ones..and I guess they are measured in VA Or KVA...i.e. Volt Ampere OR Kilo Volt Ampere.. so for 1500 W, you would need 2KVA or more..depending on the ratings of the product.. |

| There are these UPS and there are these inverters. The UPS normally has built in batteries and provide power for a limited time, enough to wind up and save data. UPS can be of two types online and offline. Generally offline types are used to power up computers. Inverters are bigger things with external battery/batteries of high capacity. These are used to provide power to domestic lights, fans, TV etc. Power rating for both UPS and Inverters is given in VA or KVA. THe real power that you can expect is about 75% of the KVA rating. So an 1KVA inverter will supply maximum 750 Watts. While calculating the required rating take in a margin of 15% derating. Also remember that certain equipments like aircon and pumps draw a very high starting current which can trip the inverter or even damage it if not electronically protected. |

I am talking about 1.2 Kva..2 Kva and the likes.. not sure what OP is looking for though...if he needs 1500W then he would need atleast a 2KVA UPS and I guess it would be something similar in inverter too.. A branded 2 KVA inverter should be in range of Rs.20K, including installation.. | |
