Chennai: Movies, DVD's etc?

Are there any DVD rental shops here that rent DVD's in English - movies, documentaries ect? Or what about buying pre-recorded DVD's - movies, documentaries etc?

Where is a good shop to buy a DVD player?

Any western style cinemas that show English films? How do I find out about them?

Movies are announced in the papers.. there will be a seperate section or a few pages devoted to movies.

You will get most of the latest English movies showing in theatres.

I'm not at all film watcher, but I know that there is a shop in CP Ramaswamy Road, its called Cinema Paradiso, in a small line of rather scruffy-looking shops opposite a very fine (and expensive) sari shop --- i think they rent films!

You can try e-zone if they have reached Chennai. If not then any big retailer will do. Compare prices from a few shops, bargain and settle. Make sure that DVD player is region-free and if your TV supports it use a component cable for superior video.

Pre-recorded DVDs can be got from PlanetM, Landmark or similar big retailers.

I am writing from Bangalore, hopefully the retailers I have mentioned are there in Chennai too.

Landmark is certainly here (Nungambakam and Spencer Plaza) and will have a good selection of DVDs for sale. There also a chain of shops called Music World (You might have one of those in Bangalore too, Prashant?) --- they have a branch in Spencers, and (at least) one in Eldam's Road.

There are alot of shops selling English movie DVD in Chennai. Sme with rentals...only you need to take the help of neighbours to locate the shops in your area.

Hi Trini,

I get DVDs from Movie Express, which is on Eldams Rd in Alwarpet, at the flyover end. They charge about Rs.40 I think for 1 day rental and will deliver and pick up the movie. They have all english and hindi movies (even some that havent been 'officially' released). Ive lost their number though, sorry.

On Nth Usman Rd in T.Nagar there are a bunch of large electronics shops which seem to have good prices.
