That is good news .

To my knowledge there is no such thing as an local/Indian certificate for the dog. It was probably just a ploy to see whether you would be willing to pay some 'facilitation money'.

Make sure you keep any paperwork they may have given you, as they can ask for this when you ever leave the country with her.

Have a great time in India!

I'm happy to hear you got your pup through without incident. I'm bringing my dog over in a few weeks. I think we have all the necessary paperwork except for a stamp that we have to wait and get until right before we leave. But I've never heard of a local/Indian certificate. I have the international certificate to import a dog to India. Is this the same thing or something else?

Now I'm worried I don't have everything.

Hi Carlaeb, We have also the same certificate you have from the country you came from. And still they ask us for this local certificate for my pup. Just to make sure try to ask the Indian embassy from your country about this certificate they looking.

We actually didnt mind what is it about when they let us out already.

Good news Flymanila!

I successfully brought my kitty back from India to France and just wanted to add that to this thread since birds has done a good job so far. A personal experience can't hurt either.
I had the cat vaccinated and fitted with electronic chip last year in November. I then had a blood sample taken, which was seperated leaving a white liquid (i'm not technical sorry). This liquid in a small test tube was then strapped to dry ice and sent by DHL to a laboratory in Toulouse France. It took them almost 3 working days to give me results prooving that my cat had the anti bodies for rabies. Unfortunately for me, the results came just after I had to take my plane, so my kitty stayed in India for 6 months. However, had I received the results in time, I could have taken my cat back to France with me. Normally, the french Minister of Agriculture, insist on the test results beign 3 MONTHS after the injection. It is posssible though, if the 3 months aren't up yet, once in France to keep the cat in "home quarantine" for the remaining time. THis means that he may not go outside and must stay in the house away from other animals and have a weekly vet check up. Then is he shows no signs of symptoms he is free!

So, when I returned to India I brought back the cat. I was armed with his vet papers showing all vaccinations, the test results from France and proof of his microchip, linking the cat on the results page to the cat in the bag.
It is wise to travel with an air carrier from the country you will be going to, it makes it much easier. I also had numbers for the Miniser of Agriculture on me too just in case.
After taking copies of the documents, and paying exces baggage (30 euros per Kilo) my cat was free to travel.
What was frustrating though, was the security guard at the airport. I had to take the cat out to go through the bleep machine with me and they wouldnt put the bag through! i was standig holding kitty for ages and they didnt think to put my cat bag before the others, they took SO long and then made me walk to the other end of the security lines and go throguh again with a w oman and all of this with my cat in my hands ready to leap and run away for fear!

This is the crazy part:
At NO point, did anyone check that the cat in the bag, was in fact the same animal on the test papers or documents!!!!!
Literally, I could post the same documents to someone tomorrow, they could pick up a stray and theyd be through in minutes!!!

Very worrying.....

Well, on the French side it was even easier. I didn't get asked anything whatsoever, no one even blinked an eyelid!

So to all those with animals, make sure you do your homework before travelling and your beloved cat/dog will be home with you.

paperwork for dogs

We moved in January from the US and I was so stressed about shipping our pet! We flew on Lufthansa (which I recommend as they were great with her and Frankfurt is know for being a great dog handling facility). We had a contact here in Chennai to arrange for Millie to be brought in, he had obtained a No Objection Certificate which we were told by Lufthansa was required. In fact they almost didn't let us board in Chicago b/c we didn't have the form. We told them it was waiting for us in Chennai and they let us go. We had to have the microchip (airline required), all the vaccinations and a USDA certificate. Hope this helps!

Hi GKJ,

Thanks for the information. Could you tell more about the no objection certificate? Where and how do you get it?
