Bewildered Canadian of Indian Origin!

Hello! I 'discovered' this forum just last week, and it has already helped me with so many questions. Thanks, everyone!

I am a Canadian of Indian origin looking to relocate to Chennai, the place of my birth. My parents still live there. After months of deliberations, my wife and I have decided to move to Chennai to be with them.

I am an environmental engineer, and work with an engineering consulting firm in Toronto. I would like to work in the engineering consulting field while in Chennai. My wife works with an IT firm in Toronto, and has categorically said she would not like to continue working while in India (something about real long hours and clueless bosses.. Yes, she had worked for 3 years in India before moving to Canada after we got married).

Anyway.. I have registered with naukri.com and monster india, etc. I have not heard anything from anyone still. But we are prepared to move there and continue my job search.

I just figured I would vent my thoughts here.. There are SO many things to do here. I am particularly apprehensive about working in India because I have never worked there before (I did go to school and unversity there, however). The next few months are going to be 'exciting' - an obvious understatement.

I look forward to updating you on my progress..

Take care, everyone

Welcome, singlemalt.

This will help the apprehension: the excellent single malt Glenfiddich

Good luck with the move.

Welcome, singlemalt

But hey, your guys should try the Irish stuff: it is as smooth as a malt, without paying the Scotch prices

Shipping by Sea from Toronto

Hi All..

I will be moving to Chennai in the last week of September. We are looking at shipping (by sea) some of our household items to Chennai. Has anyone shipped by sea to India, specifically from Canada, and would like to recommend their shipper? (I take it shipping by sea would be the cheapest option.. This is true, right?). I am looking for some companies that I can contact to get a quote.

Try DHL. They were the only ones I saw a sign of in India that I know operate fully in Canada. Not sure if they do the ship thing.

Hi Single malt,

As mentioned by our other member you may ship through DHL if you just have a few boxes of books and clothes. if you are shipping household effects then you would need to ship it in a LCL or a FCL as the case may be.
