Back to Chennai-Pondi for 6 months!
Hi,
After several years of going to and fro Chennai for short 2-3 weeks trip, My spouse and I are coming over for 6 months or so. We are due to arrive in Chennai June 16 and within a few days move to Pondicherry. As far as accommodations, it will be taken care by the compagny for which I am consulting. My wife is a nurse, she took a 6 months sabbatical leave to join me ( and keep an eye on me too...LOL ) Well, we don't intend to take much luggage since our wardrobe will not be suitable for India ( we live in Ireland!) and intend to purchase locally our needs. I do realise that coming over for 2-3 weeks ( as in the past) would be quite different than coming for 6 months so is there any suggestions on what to bring? I have been to most shopping centers and have found that almost everything is available locally but than again, being a male, my needs may not be what my wife would need or miss!!! So any long timers on here, what would you suggest??? Slan! Paddy |

Since both Chennai and Pondicherry have same type of climate, hot and humid almost throught the year, it is better that you buy and wear cotton or cotton mixed clothes like terry cotton.
For gents, normal terry cotton trousers and a half sleeves shirt or a t-shirt(to be official then full sleeves)would be ok.For ladies, salwar kameez would be better choice if you find saree is troublesome. You can buy all above clothes in Chennai itself as these are cheaper. Since it's a tropical climate, you may need two sets of clothes for a day during summer especially.Remember that you sweat a lot mot of the day. |

Spencer Plaza
I had cotton and linen clothes made very cheap at the East-West shop (2nd floor, tucked away in a corner) in Spencer Plaza (Chennai). Not business attire, but very comfortble for lounging about.

Thanks Mark for the tip, We have found an appartment in Pondy, one block from the sea shore. Next time we visit Chennai, we will have a look at your shop.
