back from Chennai

Well we just arrived back in the states today. Chennai was amazing. I had prepared my mind for the worst and it wasn't worse than I thought. I saw no snakes and only got bit by one mosquito! I have definately discovered there is no way to recreate my life in the states there, but why not make it an Indian experience for a couple of years. We hopefully found a house Should know more this week.

Thanks for answering so many silly questions.

I've seen three snakes and been bitten by countless mosquitoes . Not that I mind seeing the snakes, I always like to see new creatures

For the nervously inclined, please note that in the nearly-two years I lived in a posher area nearer the centre of Chennai I did not see a single snake, and would have been very surprised to do so

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and the city, and find that you will be able to live here. You are very wise to realise at the start that you cannot reproduce a patch of USA here: you can live well in an Indian style! In fact you may be able to have luxuries here that you could not afford at home.

When are you coming back? Tell us about the house....

Hi, we are waiting to hear from the Landlord to see if we can reach an agreement. It is on the beach off or ECR road but before the toll gate. My hubby is coming over for a few weeks in Oct to get things started and then we will all be over the first of the year. Hopefully the new home is snake free!!!

The toll gate is quite a way out of town, if you mean where you actually pay to carry on towards Mahabalipuram/Pondicherry. There's a check point nearer by the road to Sholinganallur --- maybe that's where you mean.

Anyway, be sure to get in touch and drop by to see how the 'other half' live on the 'wrong' side of the ECR . We might even have finished the kitchen by then .

BTW... in both ECR and OMR, the R stands for Road, so no need to perpetuate a common tautology there!
