for rent
Hi Folks, (am sorry for the repeat of the post)
Am looking out for a flat for rent (quite urgent). If there is anybody who is willing to share his/her flat with me or someone willing to share the flat with me please let me know. Also if you come across any of your friends willing, would be great for that too. Looking forward for some offers... Mod Note : Your other post has been deleted. Posting the same query in different forums is not allowed as it confuses our members about which thread to reply to.

Flat for rent in a quiet, walkable area?
My wife and I will be moving to Chennai in mid-May 2009 for eight months. She is on a Fulbright fellowship, and I will be doing some anthropological research on the Tamil film industry. We are looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom flat, furnished or unfurnished. Location is very important to us: we are looking for an area that is close to both the govt museum campus in Egmore (where she will be working) and the film localities such as Kodambakkam, T. Nagar, Vadapalani, and Saligramam. We have a baby who will be six months old when we move, and it is also very important that we live in an area where we can walk around with him if possible, on the streets of the neighborhood and also hopefully in a public park that would be located nearby. It'd be terrific if it were a neighborhood of relatively quiet, leafy streets with minimal traffic. We're hopeful that we can find such a place! Please feel free to suggest something that you might have available, or suggestions as to how and where to look. Thank you.

Vadapalani and Saligramam are in one direction; T Naggar and Kodambakkam in another. No huge distance between them, but some heavy-traffic spots if you doing a daily commute.
Have you checked out GoogleMaps and Google Earth (also Wikimapia, MapMyIndia), to get your bearings and to see how the land lies? They are really useful tools. Chennai has some lovely leafy residential areas. We have quite a few small parks. Guindy is big (I haven't explored it) and the Theosophical Society Gardens in Adyar (although with odd opening hours) are an oasis of peace. The bad news is that you are coming in mid-May. In Tamil, that is the beginning of the month known as the Month of Fire, with temperatures touching (and sometimes exceeding) 40C; I am afraid you will not want to be out and about much for the first couple of months. You will have to be particularly careful with your baby, to whom the dangers of hydration can happen quickly. Welcome to the site; and to Chennai ![]()

Well done! Nice place to be, as long as it is not a street that floods too much.

1 BR apts. in Kalakshetra colony
There are virtually no apt. buildings that have 1 BR in the area that is considered Kalakshetra colony. It's always 2 or 3.Rents are anywhere from 20,000-35,000 (2 to 3 BR) depending on furnishings, marble flooring, AC, etc. HOWEVER, prices are dropping.
Some single family homes have created a 1 BR flat on the upper floor, but good luck finding them... The rickshaw drivers at the tea stall (Aavin Dairy shop) in Kalakshetra Colony are ripoffs. I always ride my bicycle up to the intersection (Reliance cybercafe/Spencer) and take a rickshaw from there. |

I moved to Chennai one month ago to volunteer for an NGO. There are a couple of us looking to rent a decent, furnished place in the Chetpet/Egmore/Kilpauk area, starting in May 09. Any leads appreciated!

Another apartment question
So I'm looking for a one bedroom flat for myself and my husband starting in July 2009. I would like hot water, a kitchen, and bathroom, AC I could go either way on. However, my budget is just around 10,000 Rs./month including utilities. I would also like to live in or around Kodambakkam, T. Nagar, Vadapalani, or perhaps Nungambakkam. Is this possible? And does anyone have a good lead for me to follow?
Thanks! |

Hello Folks
![]() I'm a 28-year-old male looking for accommodation in Chennai. I prefer a well-appointed house, flat, etc. I do not mind moving in with someone on a sharing basis as long as there is privacy and the same is respected and not compromised. I am affable and well mannered. I could pay a maximum of Rs. 10,000/month depending on the worthiness of the place. If you have something on offer, kindly touch base with me ASAP. My e-mail ID is bornanew03@yahoo.com Cheers, Al |

Hi Everyone,
My name is Pallavi and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I am a Carnatic musician and in November of this year I will be coming to India for the Music Festival. I will be coming with 5 of my friends from Melbourne, all of whom are Carnatic artists also. We are looking to find a furnished apartment that can sleep about 6 people with a kitchen and somewhere central to the main city of Chennai. If anyone has stayed at an apartment there or knows of anyone who'd be able to help me, please contact me! Regards, Pallavi Mod Note have moved your post here as this is the thread for all apartment/ flat enquiries. Last edited by brownboy66 : Apr 10th, 2009 at 17:29. |
