Hey, does anyone know a trustworthy real estate agent in Chennai? or a company that I can contact? I need to rent an apartment there asap!

...Actually I do have an ex-neighbour in the trade. He will expect all the usual commissions, but I would not expect him to fleece you.

You should always take whatever steps you can to make sure that things are as you want, not just as stated (just come from Gertie's power backup thread).

It is a very tough world --- and even the agent's get ripped off. They can easily loose their commission once they have introduced landlord and tennant.

There are big companies, but they will charge even more.

If you want my neighbour's number PM me. He's a decent guy. But remember, everything is always "yes, of course I can do that" here!

If you'd asked me four days ago, I would have said Indiahomes. They were fab to deal with and very professional.

However, considering the electricity problems I have had in the last few days I might reconsider! To be fair though, Indiahomes have been very prompt at trying to sort out the problem which I suspect lies with the landlord.

Global Adjustments is another one people may recommend to you, however, I wouldn't go there... Trying to be subtle here!!

So Nick, I see now what all the laughter was about.

what an absolute nightmare.

however there is a happy ending, I managed to wade through the ocean of b.s. thrown about by agents, landlords, lawyers, etc and now have my very own pad in the big city!

now to get a gas connection...
