What car to buy - Suggestions?

Allright, I did a search and time to ask...

Following are my parameters:
- City driving, bangalore
- Five seater or more. I have children, and potential to expand if I have to carry their friends around.
- Weekend jaunts, possibly light offtrail. I am a hiker and climber. but too critical, as I feel that most cars are capable of light offtrail.
- Roofrack compatibility - to carry a six point five foot kayak, and occasional gear. Critical.
- 5-7 lakhs maximum.
- Powersteering, air conditioning, good trunk space.
- Reliable, yes that's a prerequisite

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sure there are people here that will be happy to advise and give their opinions, but I wonder if you are aware of the really excellent dedicated Indian motor forum: www.team-bhp.com.

Do give them a visit.

I'll second the team bhp website. Excellent source of info.

nick - you forgot to mention how good Tata vehicles are

For 5-7 lakhs you'll have plenty of choice both new and used. Toyota innova has plenty of room inside for a crowd, and very reliable. The Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari would also fit the requirement (a bit of a squeeze for passengers in the back if your going the distances - not nearly as roomy as the innova).

happy shopping.

How about Mahindra Renault's Logan? Good value for money. Don't know about the roof rack compatibility. Not a looker though.
