There is also Dish TV, a part of the Zee TV Group.
And Doordarshan, the state owned network markets its own dish.

zsu,

Make sure you review the channel list before you choose the subscriber. I think Star and Tata are the two providers. Some channels are available only on one of the two providers, not both -- atleast last time I checked.

thanks, crvlvr

I am not a technical person, so may be I express myself on a silly way.. but I have a card, I subscribed for some channels, and I know which satellite I need, and I know the degree of a few channels, so I hope they will be able to install it for me.

Zsu, I would check the provider's website to ensure that they offer the channels. For example, the Dish Network wesbite ststes:

"
Quote:
"The Best Indian TV Networks - Bollywood 4U - ZeeTV - B4U - TV Asia - Zee Cinema" Only available on DISH Network!"
Which means you will not get these channels on Tata Sky equipment. AFAIK

sorry, I am afraid I still do not understand it.
I want (e.g.) these channels with these parameters
Spektrum International (S) (1)
Astra 1G at 19.2º East
Cryptoworks, uplinked by UPC
Sport 1 Hungary (1)
Astra 1G at 19.2º East
Magyar 2 (M2) (1)
Astra 1G at 19.2º East
Cryptoworks, uplinked by UPC
Magyar ATV (1)
Astra 1G at 19.2º East
Cryptoworks, uplinked by UPC

so you think they won't be able to install me these, even if I will have a subscription/card with me?

No, I don't think so.
It may sound rude but not many watch these channels in India, hence no service provider offers these.

ok...I understand. So what you're after is your own dish (Ku, C band)? and someone to align it to the coordinates you've got. A couple of questions:

a) - do you know which satellite the signal is being bounced off and whether or not its footprint includes India?
b) - do you have a decoder for the encryption card you've got?

I don't know of any dish suppliers outside of those contracted to the various satellite TV providers in India (tata, dish, etc), but possibly one of the members in Bangalore might have an idea of a coms equipment supplier/ tech company that may be able to help.

yes, exactly that is what I am after.
about point a) I do not know, I will check
and yes, I do have a decoder.

but I might drop the whole idea, if it is so difficult to arrange.
thanks for your help!

well...haven't done anything yet, but your welcome.

There will undoubtedly be a supplier of comms equipment in bangalore that can do this sort of thing (it really isn't rocket science) - but as you will have gathered it wont be a short or easy process. Not sure how you'll be able to find out which satellite the signal is being bounced off - maybe search a few sites like this?

good luck.

Yes, you have done. You have figured out what I need and phrased it correctly.:-)
What I have just done is that I contacted the company in the UK who installed my system here in the NL, and asked them about the footprints.
Also asked them if by any chance they have any contact or info about Indian companies who could do the job for me. (this company from the UK install a lot for expacts, they might be able to link me to someody)
otherwise I will just ask them to fly over and do the installation :-) but I am still hoping to find a cheaper solution.

How about asking a shop which is currently selling DishTV connections? They might do it. Shops selling Tata Sky connections may not be able to do this because they sell only the decoders. Tata Sky employees then come over with the Dish and fix it up. You can also try SJP road near KR Market, which has a lot of electronic shops.

I don't think it would be worth all the trouble...

Some T V channels are available online

You might want to check out http://wwitv.com
and if the channel you want is not there on the
above website then try googling
