Sending books to India from US

Hi All,

I'm moving to India next months. I have got some books which I want to ship to India. Kindly tell me what are the best options?
I heard thru cargo ship is the cheapest option isn't it?

Please let me know...

Thanks in advance to all valuable comments.

Alas, "bookpost" (international media mail) is gone.

yup. Container cargo is the cheapest option, but how much do you have?? If it is like a bag full, you can make an ass of someone who can carry it for you :P

Hi DIVIN,
Yes, ofcourse books can also shipped to India. But it all depends upon the size/weight of the container box that is going to be used for shipping.

I had about 60 pounds of books and I used a USPS M-Bag. The books arrived after 4 months.

http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/immc2_023.htm#ep2221216

Min wt: 11 lbs, Max wt: 70 lbs

At the time, Surface Mail M-bags were available, and cost a $1/lb, but looks like now Surface Mail M-bags have been discontinued.

Airmail M-bags are expensive, $56.10 for the first 11 lbs and $5.10.

ISAL M-bag postage is $3.25/lb.

Hi Divin,

I know someone who can ship it for about 100 dollars in a box size of 18"x18"x18" max weight of 60 pounds.
