Potential opportunity to move to Bangalore
Hi everyone, I just joined and love all the information I am getting from these discussions.
I am searching for info regarding living in Bangalore. I understand the negative issues regarding population, sanitation and pollution but other than that what is there to do there? My husband is currently over there working for a couple of weeks setting up the new facility for the company he works for. He will be making a few more trips like this but also has the opportunity to move there for 1-2 years to help get the department up and running. I am very very excited about the opportunity since I am a yoga afficionato and a massage therapist wanting to learn more about Ayurveda. Not to mention just being able to experience India for more than 2 weeks! So: 1. What is there to do in terms of extracurricular activities? (My husband is an avid surfer so I know he is having issues with not having that option) 2. Are there any ayurvedic schools in the city? 3. Do those of you who live in Bangalore live in gated communities? (I saw some pics my husband took of areas that really look like neighboorhoods here in San Diego.) Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. I am going on the next trip that is planned for end of Jan/early Feb. So very excited! Even got all my shots, passport and visa in preparation! hee hee |

Hi mbcheb
You already know most of the drawbacks of bangalore 1. Traffic congestion 2. Power outage 3. Pollution (mostly automobile not industrial) 4. Cost of living etc etc etc.... You also dont have chance to surf, skate etc. But there are other things you can do as if you are in any big metropolitan city. you can join tennis club, golf club or any gym. Yoga, Ayurveda. Gated communities are like concrete jungles. Any normal good locality like Koramangala, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Indira Nagar will be great. You have lots of flex. Bangalore is not a great activities place. Mostly partying, eating in good indian veg restuarants etc. For weekend activities you have to get out of bangalore and there are lots of nearby places which you can cover in two days time. If you have kids then the weekend is only on sunday. Since kids have mostly school on saturdays except for the second saturday. Yeah, gated communities do have private gym, pool, park and other amenities good for day to day living. That's all. Give it a try. If you dont have kids, easy to take a 6 month experiment and if you like it continue for 2 years. cheers |

I am really excited about the trip! I am going at the end of January to check it out. We will then decide if we want to pursue the opportunity to live there. Heck with the company forking over the money to fly us back and forth you have to take the chance! Could change your life! Thanks for the info...
Bye the way we really don't want to live in the gated communities...why leave San Diego if that is the case ha ha ha I really want to know the people and I can't see how you can really experience India without being emersed. Thanks again! Chat more later. |

err . . . ah, actually, every house in middle class India has a gate and a nightwatchman (chowkidar). Gated communities, however, are rare.
![]() In Bangalore for the kids of all ages, there's go-carting, bowling, video game arcades and a waterslide park!
