Possible move from Delhi to Bangalore
Hi, We have been living in Delhi for just on 12 months and now they may be an opportunity to move to Bangalore. We have never been so I have a few questions before my husband goes down to check it out first.
What is Delhi like compared to Bangalore? Anyone lived in both and have an opinion??? My child is at the American School in Delhi, is the Canadian School in Bangalore the best options for an International English speaking school? My husbands possible work place is in Electric city, I have heard this is far out of town, is this true? If we wanted to live in a modern villa type housing in a gated community with pool and gym etc, what would be the best options? Any other advise much appreciated! |

Hi Daffodil,
Welcome to Bangalore. Let me first address your school query. As your husband would be working at Electronics City, which is on the Bangalore Hosur Highway, it is suggested that you look out for a school thats closer to EC. The Canadian Intl. School is way far and located in Yelankha on the other side of Bangalore. I guess it would easily take two hours minimum to reach Electronics city if you stay near the school. Hence the best option to you is to look at Treamis School. Ranjan one of our India Mike members had earlier given some details on how he secured admission for his child. Below is his post. The admissions procedure is very simple. I registered on line and wire transferred about 150 dollars in December. The school counselor talked to my son over the phone. She wanted to make sure that my son’s age was appropriate to the grade he was seeking admission. She asked few academic questions. This process assured the seat. In early March, I made a pre move trip to Bangalore and visited the school. I paid Rs. 70,000 towards fee (Rs. 35K per semester) and a refundable security of Rs. 25K. This is for 8th grade. They have different fee structure for different grades. There are no donations or capitation fee. I paid the resident Indian fee. If I were to be in the USA and send my son as a hostel student, they would’ve charged me NRI fee. That would be $1400 per semester. They give first preference to students coming from foreign countries…. particularly to those coming from the USA and UK. 80% of the promoters of the school are NRI/Expats. Most of them live in the USA and UK. Their objective is to facilitate continuation of education process for relocating children. The school combines the best of both worlds. They have adopted US education environment and have a hybrid global curriculum up to 8th grade. For high school, they offer Indian CBSE as well as IGCSE (UK-Cambridge) curriculam. --------------------------------------------------------- I hope the above helps. You may also go through the school website http://www.treamis.org/ and the website for the Canadian School is http://www.cisb.org.in/ Inorder to help you get a fair idea of the topography of Bangalore please check out this map of bangalore. http://bangalore.clickindia.com/gene...s/roadmap.html You can see Yelanhanka at the top next to Kannur and Electronic City almost at the bottom right next to Divya Jothi coconut Grove. You can gauge the distance and the time that would take for you to drive. I am not sure about the Villa Options near Electronic City, hence lets await responses from people who are actually staying there in similar kind of properties. However, you may also consider Koramangla where there are nice apartments with Swimming Pool , GYm etc and would be within City Limits. I am sure Treamis would have school buses to pick and drop children, which you can check it out. More later, Raghu Quote:
