Hey everyone, I'm moving to Bangalore in about a week, and this forum has been a wonderful resource for me. And I'm not even there yet! But now I've got more specific questions than have already been answered here, so I'm getting around to posting.

Does anyone know anything about the new FRRO in Bangalore? I understand from this: http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/re...office_1333763, in conjunction with the ImBureau of Immigration's web site, that the FRRO in Bangalore has moved out of the police commissioner's office and now has its own office in Indira Nagar. Anyone know anything about this?

And on another note, I'll be living with a friend, at least initially. Any thoughts on what I should do to prove my address to the FRRO? Should I draw up a rental agreement with my friend? Should I find a way to have it notarized? Should I bring my friend's phone bills? Should I bring my friend to the FRRO? Should I do all of the above and expect to be rejected 3-4 times anyway?

Thanks so much!

I presume you got on OK, but for future reference...

The new office is here: http://is.gd/k7Ry5 (map link)

My employer made out that I was staying with a work colleague, and we provided his address along with a copy of his lease agreement. I'm actually staying in a hotel just now while I find an apartment.

Although there wasn't any place to put a "temporary" address on the application forms, on my residency certificate it actually shows this address as Temporary and there's a space above it (currently blank) for a Permanent Address too.

I was only in there for about 3.5 hrs and found the procedure relatively painless, although some of the people there from Yemen, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan etc were being made to jump through hoops, go away and come back with additional documentation, and so on. (I'm from the UK.)

Heh... but when I had to renew recently, after being here 12 months, it took THREE DAYS, one of which was spent getting a police certificate, waiting in my apartment for 2 cops to come round to check I really lived there and ask inane questions, going back to the police station a couple of times and eventually picking it up the next day.

Also unbelievably picky staff who kept quibbling over the formatting of tax documentation I'd been given by our HR dept, and sending me away again...

I was kind of expecting it, but even so.... argh! Indian bureaucracy certainly is world-class!
