well....the previous post told it all.

If you cant get the long sentence right you can just say

Namaskara. naanu Neil

( Hello i am Neil)

Good luck

beware : your new colleagues may not be kannada. They may well be from delhi or mumbai or kolkata etc.... In that case they may be clueless when they hear you speaking in kannada.

thnx a lot for the hint, I hope to speak it right.
jyotirmoy: you last post is Hindi??

anyway I must find out first if there is a majority of "bangaloreans" at the office...I gave it for granted, and very probably that´s a mistake in India

Yeah, as others have mentioned your colleagues may not all be Kannadigas.

"Hello my name is Neil":
Namaskara: Nam ass car aah
Nanna: Nun nah
Hesaru: Heh sah rue
Neil: Neilu just joking, we Kannadigas have the habit have adding oo to most of the English words.

Now say it all together: Nam-ass-car-aah Nun-nah Heh-sah-rue Neilu

"and I´m very happy to be here in Bangalore":
There is no direct translation for this and frankly I am struggling.

Bangalore-ee-gay bun-the-dhu nun-aa-gay bar-ree khu-she aa-ghee-dhey

Above 'ghee' starts with a hard G as in go. The individual words should be said a little fast, but not too fast .

Phew!

Hope this helps.

Sorry, didn't understand. Please clarify further. If you are asking about 'gay' then it's the same pronunciation as the english word 'gay'.

Thanks or Thank you. No I am not pulling your leg. We use this most of the time. The Kannada word would be Dhanyavaada - Dhan-yeah-waa-dha. Using 'Dhanyavaada' is rare and considered quaint. However, if you use it then people will be delighted .

Hindi word for 'Thanks' is the same, just a wee bit shortened. Dhanyavaad - Dhan-yeah-waa-dh.

hi, I must say that in the end most of the ppl in my office are not kannada speakers, so they understood nothig (better if I had used mayalayam...), yet for the kannada speakers, my speech was also useless , yet it was a funny momment and all of them end up laughing quite a while, so i may say, it was a success,

Glad to hear that it broke the ice successfully. Just curious about what went wrong. Accent or pronunciation?
