Oh BTW man, make a comment as soon as you can - you are stuck at 666 <:O

Also, your link for car insurance was helpful. It also listed car's price once I selected the model. I randomly selected one of the several Maruti Swift models...cost of the car was 3,94,xxx, and insurance premium was roughly 15,000 (my estimate was 6,000 hahahaha I feel stupid man..totally stupid)

Everything said and done, the reality is that it is very difficult to get expat packages nowadays for Indians _wanting_ to return to India. There have been other discussions on IM, please search for it. There is a huge number of software Engineers who have returned from their H1B projects, there is no dearth of well qualified IT engineers here. Some of my friends who had moved from during the boom times, with about 20 years experience in the US, with high salaries (still less than expat packages) are having their salaries scrutinised now.
With just 6 years of experience, about Rs 80K/month is a good deal. It is always demand and supply equation.
And yes, Indian companies are continuing to get projects from abroad, but the foreign companies have become tight with their project costs and drive a hard bargain. IT salaries have actually frozen in the last couple years.

Do be careful about predicting what housing you would accept. It may be way below your most pessimistic expectations, so you do need to have a look yourself in person before you can state firmly what you're still agree to accept.

I felt it myself, as just yesterday visited some not-so-bad area (by Indian standards) and decided to pay a bit more for my future rent for finding somewhat another area. ^_^ And I also never considered myself to be choosy being born in Ukraine and living my first 24 years in Ukraine and Russia where housing standards are way beyond Western ones too. ^_^

man, if u wanna come down, just come down!!!

am living comfortably here for less than 25% salary of what ur offered.

but there are other things which ur not even considering, for example -traffic, public nuisance, etc

if ur used to less people, quite life..trust me, even if u have been to india, ur in for a shock..

about the figures mentioned above, they are a bit exaggerated in my opinion

Rent : 10k for single bedroom( if ur looking for PG, you will even find in 3k)
Car Loan : 12k for swift( 5.5k for petrol, 6.5k for diesel) - i think u can eliminate this at least for 2 yrs by using a bike which u can easily pick up for 50k, this is the best option in the traffic(unless it doesn't rain).
Internet : 1499.00 per month( for airtel 512 kpbs/day and 1mbps/ night)
electricity : 600.00 per month( u will not get beyond this for one person, don't even consider AC. cos u wont need it in Bangalore, the temps here are between 20-35 degrees C thru the year- u'll get used to it sooner than other places)
Food : 5,000.00 per month( for one person, unless u eat too much)
Maid : 1000.00 per month(
weekends : will be around 1k per weekend, unless u blow too much money!!
Misc : 4000.00 per month

other things u probably don't know
All shops are required to be closed by 11.30 pm
don't f*** around with cops, they aren't helpful.
Frustration at the pace at which things happen here will kill u!!!

last, but not the least, if ur not if ur not patriotic in the "true sense", i dont think u'll last in India for too long, cos u'll have to take a lot of non sense here!

p.s. if u manage to learn kannada, the above prices will go down!!

I know..I wasn't even expecting an expat package. I haven't heard of engineers getting expat packages anyways :-) It's always those big business-people who get such good deals.
And for sure, India has no dearth of talent, hence the "relatively" lower salaries - just like you said, simple demand and supply equation.
Ohh and it's 4 years experience, not 6..hope to get at least 1 lakh a month by the time I have 6 years under my belt.

Indian companies will always continue to get work from abroad, that's never gonna stop. Not in the next decade anyways. Just like majority of the Americans, I have lost all faith in this "once mighty" country to bounce back. The company I work for is not even American, so it won't take much for them to just pack up from here.

Thanks for chipping in :-)

Cheers man.
