Moving to Bangalore and questions for families and musicians

Hi there,

My husband and I have recently accepted jobs teaching in Bangalore, where we will be involved in setting up a new international school. I can't quite believe it. We arrive in six months and as you can imagine we have rather a lot to do. Our 9 year old daughter has mixed feelings. She is not so enthralled having to leave her best friend in the 'universe' but she loved India completely so is excited about going. We visited India a year ago and spent 7 weeks mainly in Rajasthan (5 weeks and Goa ) Anyway questions-

1. If there is anybody who has moved with their children to India, are there any words of wisdom - if you were to do it again you would... How quickly did they settle in? She will be attending the same school as us.

2. When my parents lived in various parts of Asia, they belonged to a club with pools, tennis clubs, restaurants which was a great place for kids to meet. (It was good for my little brother. -I'm not wanting some elite expatriate's club where the 'locals' are kept out!)

3.On a completely different topic - my husband is a musician (guitarist). He has many guitars and is wondering how many to bring. Are good quality guitars - electric and acoustic available at reasonable prices (Any excuse to buy more guitars!!)
He is into brands like Fender Stratocaster, Gibson, Ibanez especially vintage etc. What about amplifiers can you buy good valve amps? He is also excited about getting into more Indian instruments, he bought a beautiful Sitar last time we were there and actually plays it in the band he is in. It goes down very well at gigs.

It was great to know about you,your husband and the kids. Although, I am still single ( Getting married April 20th 2008!) but I shifted to Bangalore from Calcutta in December 2007 and found this place to be pretty nice, excepting some bad roads. The people are friendly and the weather is not as humid as that of Calcutta. There are many associations in Bangalore which are not at all elitist in their functioning. ( Locals are not kept out ! )

I do not think it is a good idea to look for quality fender stratocaster/gibson guitars in India ! It is always better to bring along as many as your husband can carry from your country!
On the other Indian Classical and/or folk instruments would be something worth collecting from India.
