Moving - Duty on personal DVDs

Hi All,

We have lived in the US for 15 years, moving to Bangalore and taking a transfer of residence. We are shipping some of our stuff including clothes, books, some kitchenware. Almost no electronics.

I have a small collection of personal DVD movies (mostly Region 1 US), some educational such as Planet Earth collection and others like Chaplin, Kurosawa, Satyajit Ray, etc. that I would like to take back with me. If we ship these, will they incur a duty, if so how much?

I also have a good solar oven I plan to ship. It is not electronic, but I am guessing it will attract attention. Will they bother?

I am wondering what I should expect at the customs.

thanks in advance.

Bring the DVDs along with you in your personal baggage. No duty will be charged.

.

Under transfer of residence, you should not have any problems at all, including with DVDs

I got charged GBP50 for a whole houseful of stuff. Few DVDs but dozens of CDs and all the usual electrics.

Oddly, I have a feeling that DVDs in the hand luggage is more likely to attract attention! Just my feeling. Heavy, too!

DVDs are very light! I have brought plenty of DVDs in my luggage into India and out of India. Never a problem.
