Move to India for one year?
Would it be possible to move to India for a year from the states and pick up an okay job with only a couple of years of college behind me. I was thinking i could go into telecommunications (they need some american english accents). Ive heard they get paid about $2000-3000 a year which doesnt seem too bad for India. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be done and what jobs i could easily get when going over there. What cities are best? Can i get a year buisness visa? thanks

Dunno much abt. visa. Should be easy to get once you got a job.
Lot of banks etc have call-centers/back-office running out of india. they need people to answers calls etc. they also need people to teach american accent etc. so you can come handy. modelling? -- if you are into that sorta thing. whatelse - sales/front desk etc etc. 2-3k$ is very gettable for someone with decent english. but it will be barely enuff to manage to total cost. not sure whether youll have much money to travel etc at the end of it. but india experience guaranteed. easy places - bangalore, hyd, mumbai, delhi |

Working in any foreign country is difficult, and India is no different. Business visas are sponsored by a company. You have to get the job, then they sponsor your visa. You can't get a business visa and then go looking for work, and you can't work on a tourist visa. This is the same as it is in the US.

Unless you are working illegally you will have to apply for an employment visa in your own country. It will have to be supported by letters of confirmation and invitation from your prospective employer.
You cannot stay here longer than 180 days on a tourist visa. Some of the smaller organisations may be interested in you just because you speak American English, however, the bigger ones would be looking for serious pro qualifications for language coaches, and heaps of people here are already doing the job. Remember that educated Indians speak English ---and have the advantage of being fluent in their own local language. I doubt that you could live here on 7 or 8,000 a month. Yes, it is not a bad salary for India, but if I'd have had to do it I'd have starved before I found out how. Doubt that I could now: my rent is over 6,000. However, if you have the qualifications and experience to land a good language training/management job you could expect to earn a lot more. Save up some money and come as a tourist!
