Hi All,
I am Sri Lankan citizen in IT industry and got a Job offer in Bangalore. I am married and with 1 kid. My working location will be Sigma Tech Park, Whitefield. I will be really gratefull if some can answere to following queries. I know it is subjective but need as an average. 1. Normally how much do I have to pay for an appartment, preferabally near my working location. And normally how in to how many months do I have to pay my down payment? 2. What are the taxes do I have to pay for my earnings and living? And also planning to send some money back to SL are there any tax for that as well? 3. I am interested about the cost for our stay such as for food, house hold expenses etc. You can consider us as a middle class family. Thanks and Regards |

If you are not meat savvy and happy with local vegetables, then I don't see more than 3 - 4K each month. On house hold expenses, it really depends on what all you want :-) Like ac, microwave, cable tv, broadband internet and so on. That is absolutely depending on your living style. BTW, if you list what you want, then you may get better answers. |

hi,
welcome to bangalore, 1. Normally how much do I have to pay for an appartment, preferabally near my working location. And normally how in to how many months do I have to pay my down payment? A two bedroom house might cost you from 5000/= to 12000/= in the areas sorrounding you office. 2. What are the taxes do I have to pay for my earnings and living? And also planning to send some money back to SL are there any tax for that as well? I think you have to pay your income tax, the taxes are roughly 25 percent of you income.I am not sure right know about money being sent to other countires. 3. I am interested about the cost for our stay such as for food, house hold expenses etc. Bangalore is expensive city as far as food and house hold expenses are concerned. I spend around 20k for 5 people. You can consider us as a middle class family. I also belong to the same middle class. I hope you got a rough idea, for any more clarification please feel free to post. |

Hi,
Really appriciate your responce and thanks for welcome me. As you said I will breakdown few of my interested areas to get a better result. 1. My kid is very small and she is not in a stage to go to school yet. 2. We are hoping to go out for food 1-2 times per week and we are meat savvy 3. Would like to know about internet brodband or ADSL, what are the proivders and cost etc. 4. We are reading a lot, so planning to spend some on News papers and Magazins. 5. Very interested in TV either Cabel or Sattelite. What are your recomandations. Since I don't know any local language at the moment prefer to have some channels in English, and the rental and initial payment etc. Once again thanks for your help. |

2. Depending on the type of meat and type of hotels, your food will now go up to 6 - 8K per month, I guess. 3. Plenty of broadband options. Most of them are reliable. Cost may range from 500 to 1200 per month depending on the chosen option. 4. Newspapers are not costly. Just couple of hundreds a month, unless you want some exclusive magazines. 5. Most of the cablewalas have many English channels and you should be fine. Again just few hundred rupees per month. P.S.: There are certain things like AC, UPS / Generator etc which will add to the expenses, if you choose to have them! Some apartments do have Genset backup, but their rentals are pretty high. Expect powercuts on a regular basis. |

Here is a list of the broadband provides besides the local ones. You can check their site for the traiff plans that would suit your budget.
a. Airtel b. Sify c. Tata Broadband d. Hathway Airtel, TATA Sky and Dish TV provide DTH services in India. You can opt for your kind of package. English channels are aplenty. I am not sure if you understand Tamil. If you do, then you will find quite a lot of them in the general package as well. |

Thanks Ctrl alt del for your quick responce. All sounds good and I think I should take this oppertunity. So planning to come alone and settle first for around 3 months and then planning to take my family.
So can you kindly tell me what is the suitable way to stay for my initial 3 months? Is it advicable to stay in a hotale or a guest house? If so what is the average price for staying per day or entire month with or without food? Preferaballe to stay somewhere very near (within 1km or less range if posible) to my working location, Sigma Tech park, Whitefield. |
