Learning Hindi in Bangalore???

I'm moving to Bangalore 15th July and living and working there for a year, I'd really like to learn Hindi and possibly also Kannada while I'm there. Have been looking online for schools...any suggestions on where I can take classes? I'm also up for private lessons....???

I have found some options, I wanted to get some first hand advice, hence why I posted the question here. I've sent various emails to various "schools" and "private instructors" in Bangalore with no response, or with no promising response (ie reluctance to quote a price, etc).

you don't need hindi or kannada to live in bangalore.. locals speak broken and butler english...
English will do as long as you speak the local english

Locals find it difficult to understand accented english...

Hi there Rebecca, my name is Shareen and I will be going to Bangalore in Feb for 6 months and if you are interested then we could meet up. Can I ask what you are doing in India? I will be visiting a school and orphange. I am currently learning Kannada at the moment from a tutor. I live in London and advertised for tuition. I can tell you this now though...it's very hard!!!

My email is freebirdnz@yahoo.com so if you would like to keep in touch then maybe we could meet up when I arrive in Banaglore.

Take care,

Shareen

@the OP - If you find something that is good, let me know. I don't really strictly need to learn Kannada or Hindi, but it might be nice while I'm living in Bangalore. Hindi might be handy for Bollywood movies and Kannada useful with gardeners and auto drivers.

Plus I just have to start watching Kannada movies sometime. The publicity posters hint at a trove of B movies. Sadly, they don't seem to get the dubbing or subtitle treatment.

I've been learning Hindi now for about 4 weeks - the class I've been going to is based near the National Games Village. It's nothing special, but the trainer is quite patient and there are only 5 of us in the class. The cost was Rs/1500 for 24 hours (2 sessions of 2 hours each weekend for 6 weeks). They don't have a website though so you'll have to call if you want to sign up.

If you're still looking for somewhere to have lessons, PM me and I'll dig out the contact details for you.

Would be interested in the contact details, if you still have them.

You have to be careful learning Hindi in Bangalore. It's not used much, so you'd have to take a class or tutor, much like learning in UK. (I was very disappointed to discover this...) Also, if you get a teacher, make sure they're from North India. Otherwise, you'll end up with a Mallu-UK accent on top of your Hindi! The other problem is finding someone to teach you who isn't stuck in the teaching students to pass exams mode--which is very difficult for someone who actually wants to speak it! Another reason why a North Indian teacher is better.

it's do-able, just not as easy as where Hindi is used widely.
