its too late for me to apply for the PIO card here in London, as i fly out this weekend.

But - if like you say, i can apply for it in India, i will for sure. just found out i can infact register for it once in India, if according to this site by the High Commission of India is correct.

http://www.hcilondon.net/visa/pio-card.html

For arguements sake - say i get a employment position in India, can i get a employment VISA by going to a neighbouring country, visiting the Indian embassy their, and getting a employment VISA from their? Saves me going back to the UK and is cheaper?

Again, I'm really not the one to advise you here, it's not my field, but like some others have hinted, I think you really want to concentrate on cashing in on (as in formalizing) your being of Indian origin and the rights that come with it, the rest should be of no concern to you.

I believe employment visas need to be obtained from country of residence yes, but I'm really not sure. In any case and again, it shouldn't even apply to you. I think.

c. with the 5 year visa thing - i know after 180 days, i have to leave and come back (1 day) but really im allowed to stay longer if within the 14 days i arrive i register at the FRRO office and tell them im staying longer then six months!

getting a employment VISA is going to be tough - unless i leave the country, come home, and go back!
To be blunt, that's just getting silly, if you want to do any sort of proper, mainstream, on-the-record (on the CV?) work.

Tough that its going to be tough. That's the law

But really, you're not. Simple.

There's a lot here that you just have to live with, and if you didn't think of it until too late... suggest you change your plans.

You can apply for a PIO card in India, yes. You need to be there on a 1-yr-plus visa; not a tourist visa. But you can always ask.

If you are eligible for the PIO, forget about the employment visa. Apply for the PIO in UK. You don;t have to be in UK while it is being processed. If it comes through, then you are legal to work in India.

As to your previous question, anything is possible in India and the chances of getting "caught" by govt agencies are slim. But, you will probably be taken advantage of by an unscrupulous Indian due to your predicament.

crvlvr - as much as as anything may be possible in India, the last thing i would want to do is mess around with another countries Law!

But saying that, i think i will definitely apply for the PIO card either whilst i am in India, or get my family to do it whilst im their. Only thing is i'll have my passport! lol

Thanks for everyones help!

That's OK then!

If you apply for PIO, I doubt that they would keep your passport. It can be quick, but it can also take months, and they can hardly prevent a person travelling for that time.

Only problem is, if they call you for an interview, or collecting the card, as I don't know that they would give it to anyone other than the applicant.
