Finding employment in Bangalore

Hi everyone.

I booked a open ticket to Bangalore recently because i just really wanted to do something new and i was wondering if anybody knew how to find jobs (specifically writing jobs as i am a journalist, NGO, even volunteering positions) in Bangalore.

I have a 5 year VISA (i am of Indian origin) and luckily i will not be needing accommodation when i am in India as i have family based in Bangalore, so I'll stay with them, for the short term at least.

I know this is NOT a job portal, but i have tried most things - Naukri, TimesJobs, and Monster India, but now i just feel that it would be better to go out their and look myself rather then doing it all virtually through the internet!

I have researched all the Recruitment firms in India (although i may have missed some) and i've also contacted newspapers etc.

I'm just taking each day as it comes - and i am open to ANY suggestions that anyone may have. If its just a couple of pointers ion how to look for a job in Bangalore, that would be perfect!

Thanks everyone. I will be writing articles about my findings, so stay tuned!

That seems pretty competitive on that sites like monster, naukri etc. I know about one russian school teacher who came to teach to Tamil Nadu with her son (got 10000 RS a month ).She found that position at Naukri. And then switched to Bangalore being recruted as technical writer by some telecom company.
Just comments. Sorry can't help you.

Whatever you find, you have to get the employment visa back in your home country.

Even for PIO's/NRI's? (The person seems to indicate s/he is.)

thanks for your responses so far.

at the moment, i have a 5 year tourist visit (POI). Unless i work freelance, i am definitely going to need a employment visa.

The Indian embassy in London has already told me this.

But i guess that my options will become more clear once i get to Bangalore.

I thought i would be pretty much employable to a lot of companies because of my education and skills, but Indian companies seem wiling to give interviews, and then when i reply (via email) as to the time and date, they do not respond back. Is this a outsider experience i am having or do thjose that work in India experience this too?

Dos anyone know of any places to volunteer in Bangalore, as i'd rather help put as much as i can if finding employment doesnt happen!

Maybe they answered the wrong question! You are of Indian Origin? Either PIO card or OCI will entitle you to hassle-free any-time entry into India, along with the right to work or study there

That's what I thought yes. It's a confusing situation; it's not uncommon for embassy personnel (of any country) to mostly just answer whatever you're directly asking or what they think you want to hear though, without looking at the wider picture or possibilities, or asking you some questions in turn that might turn out to be relevant. I guess like office dullards in many sectors (ahem, no offense to our resident office dullards )

I think some of those statuses (OCI and the whole shebang) need to be formalized by applying for that status btw, they're not a given as such. All that stuff is really way out of my league though, so I'll leave you to the resident experts here

Back to the visa topic.. If you are on a "5 year" tourist visa, your stay in India is still limited to 180 days. (you just donlt need another visa for any number of 180 day visit during the 5 year period) Converting that visa to a employee visa in india is almost impossible within the 180 day period.

what if:

a. i was paid in cash?
b. i used a Indian bank account to pay my salary? Like my family members - thus i wouldnt need a employment visa as technically, im not employed
c. with the 5 year visa thing - i know after 180 days, i have to leave and come back (1 day) but really im allowed to stay longer if within the 14 days i arrive i register at the FRRO office and tell them im staying longer then six months!

getting a employment VISA is going to be tough - unless i leave the country, come home, and go back!

a. no organization worth its salt is going to pay a substantial salary in cash. you would not want to get mixed up with a dodgy one which would.

b. no idea

c. I dont think it works that way.

Why don't you just apply for a PIO or OCI card before you leave? That will save you a whole load of hassle! A visa for 15 years and you can work all you want! I think you can even apply for that in India. If you don't have time to do it before you go, India might be worth a shot. Just make sure you bring all the necessary documents....
