I would suggest Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Bangalore. Most of this is 4 laned and the road conditions should be good and in some stretches excellent.

concur with aarosh.
national highway #8 - delhi to bombay. ---- here.
national highway #4 - bombay to bangalore. ---- here.
have provided the maps - choose your stops. google for distances.

is this your first road trip ??
get on the road at daybreak - get off the road well before sunset.
safety ? about what ?

Hi Brishti - Thanks for the info. This is my second long trip. I was looking at safety in terms of road conditions and otherwise since I will be driving alone.

Also, someone suggested me an alternate route - Delhi>>Hyd>>B'lore. Any idea about how that route is and whether that is advisable.

the delhi-pune-bangalore is the usual shortest route.
its a new route for you... whichever one you take, via hyd or bom.
it'd be 'safer' if you were not doing it alone.
why ?
car breakdown / just-one-rowdy somewhere / unknown land / unknown language [karnataka/andhra - not talking about hyd] - anything.
its different from doing 'known' routes on your own.

i'm not discouraging you ruchika - or maybe i am.
go on - hire someone as a 'companion' for the journey
i am not disputing your competence/ability/potential for anything.
be safe - thats all.

It may be your 2nd long trip, but, that does not mean much. All it takes is one ugly incident. I agree with Brishti - find a companion. The next question I have: why are you planning on driving from Gurgaon to Bangalore? Why not have the car transported and you take a comfortable train ride by say, Rajdhani.

Driving 10-12 hours a day alone is also not advisable.

Cheers

Adding my voice to Brishti's.

1. driving alone in a car for 10-12hrs a day for more than 2 days can be mind-numbingly dull and it can affect your concentration level.

2. Two people in a car is very different from being alone in a car in case of anything going wrong.

3. Do this drive only if you intend to drive slowly and savour all the great places on the way - rajasthan, Gujarat, konkan coast. If you are short of time then donot attempt this trip.

I travelled down delhi to bangalore via this route n found to be oK.

It took two days with almost 40hour of drive.

driving in MP at night times is not safe , so must avoid that .Starting off early (say, 5 am) is the ideal way to go.

Delhi-Agra-Gwalior-Biaora-Bhopal-Itarsi-Betul-Nagpur-Hydrabad-Bangalore.

Distance from Delhi to Bhopal is around 750 kms via Gwalior.
4-lane till Gwalior, then 2-lane all the way till Nagpur, after Nagpur about 50-80kms road is not good as widening work is going on with 4-lane roads on and off on NH7.
