accomodation in Bangalore

Hi - I will be moving to Bangalore in August. I intend to stay for at least a year and am looking into housing options, probably furnished. Does anyone have any advice regarding location, price, things I should know? I will have to be near MG Road often and in Jayanagar (15th main I think) often. Because travel can take so much time I figure that I should live somewhere convenient to these places.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Only you may have have a small air transportation like helicoptor.

Just Kidding.

The traffic is very bad between those two points. Also, what do you mean by commute very often. Is it in the same day. The jayanagar or the Richomd Road area will be good for living.

Hi - the traffic can get insane in blore! i don't have my schedule worked out yet - but at least two or three days a week I hope to be in Jayanagar for the mornings (mostly from 6-8 am so traffic on the way there at least shouldn't be so bad).
The rest I am guessing I will be working close to Infantry Rd and sometimes at Cunningham Rd. I actually have friends in Frazertown and stayed there last year and liked the neighborhood. But since I need to be in the south part of the city so often ...

Traffic in Bangalore is much more busy at certain times - try to get flexible hours so you can avoid rush hour. It's never quiet so don't get your expectations up too high, but travelling outside rush hour makes a huge difference. My journey to work (12Km)from near the airport to ITPL in the East of Bangalore takes 30 minutes at around 11am or an hour at 9am. The evenings seem to be worse, with journey times up to 90 minutes from 4pm to 9pm.

Accomodation is expensive in Bangalore, and hard to find. My deal for a serviced flat, clean and newly renovated, 2 bedrooms, all in gas/electricity, A/C, with power backup, flat rate internet, in a quiet closed compound with gym & pool is $1600 a month. Larger flats (3 bed) cost around $2000 - $2500. These flats come with a caretaker who cooks and cleans for you, a bit like a hotel (and also attract luxury tax, like a hotel). The landlord is also fantastic, very supportive and helpful. I can PM you his details if you're interested. There are other options, less attractive flats for less money, for around $750 I was offered a larger flat but not serviced and all extras to be paid.

No problem in Bangalore

If you want to travel between MG Road and Jaynagar , i would suggest you to live in jaynagar and then travel to MG Road. It is not that far as you can travel through JC road , just abt 11 or 12 kms....MG Road area is quite expensive and very polluted and therefore i would suggest you to live in Jaynagar area as it is very nice . A 2 bedroom house must cost you around $200 a month and a single bedroom house is around $120 a month. Ofcourse deposit will be 10 months rent. I am speakin abt unfurnished house ..if u want a fully furnished house it will cost u more, You can also opt for PG accomodation for abt $70 a month which includes food, water, TV etc.
It depends on what kind of a lifestyle u wanna lead here
All the best

Post some options.

Hi

BTM Layout, JP Nagar, Jayanagar are good options for you. Furnished houses are going to be around $500 (RS.25000).

You can check on the net itself, there are sites like http://www.99acres.com

search for Bangalore south.

Hi

Don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but I'll be moving to Bangalore in a while too and will need a place as close to MG Road as possible. Ideally within 3km.

I'm looking for a 1BHK (about 600 sq ft), unfurnished or semi-furnished in/around Victoria Layout /Cambridge Layout / Victoria Layout / Richmond Town / Austin Town / Langford Town / Ulsoor.

If anyone has any recommendations, advice, information about what sort of rates I should be paying, general pros and cons, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance.

Ok just for records I know a fairly good house next to the airport and close to the HP/IBM campus getting freed by 1st July. Asking rent is about 8.5k per month and the locality is quite fair, especially if you are working in Airport road. Send me a pm if any one is interested!

What will be the best area to stay to minimize commuting time for both of us. I have heard Bangalore traffic is terrible. Also we r looking for 3-4 bedroom apartment with servant quarter with rental of 30-35K INR per month. Can anybody give suggestions for good society or builder?

Check out Diamond District on Airport Road (down the hill from the Leela Palace on the opposite side of the road) if you are looking for a flat. See my earlier post for journey times to Whitefield, transport options are from DD to ITPL are either town buses (nice AC Volvo ones too) or the rickety old ITPL buses. I stayed at DD for five months and was quite happy and, my landlord was excellent. His name was Hemant Arora from Aryson Luxury Homes & Apartments. www.arysonluxuryhomes-apartments.com. PM me if you need his phone number.

Bangalore traffic is indeed terrible but I don't know how it compares to other Indian cities.

Hi..
You can write to saleem02@gmail.com and he might help you for the flat. He is a doctor practicing in a reputed hospital in Bangalore.

Lightbulb Contact Me

I know someone who just bought a flat near Bangalore Baptist Hospital (Not that far from the new airport) but not that convenient for MG Road. But any others interested contact me (dandeva@earthlink.net) and I can connect you. He moved from Bangalore to Calicut and looking for renters. I was just there in February. Lovely area; still feels like old Bangalore and not the horrible conjusted areas of Bangalore.

Traffic is Bangalore is so bad I predict us Bangaloreans will go mad within a decade.

Hi all,
I'm considering a move to Bangalore from Delhi. My wife and I are both freelance journalists who work from home, so we don't have to be in any particular area every day. However, we want to be in a decent neighborhood where there are fun bars relatively nearby, good restaurants, etc, etc. (In other words, we want to be in the Bangalore equivalent of South Delhi/South Mumbai).

What kind of rent can we expect to pay for a nice 2 or 3 bedroom apartment -- decently large, with modular type kitchen preferred?
