why is fuel surcharge so high

i was watching the prices on jetairways. the fuel surcharge is so high from chennai to mumbai. infact, the local flight charge is half the cost when compared to Toronto to Chennai

Jetairways is expensive. A year after the oilprices cut in half they still maintain the 2008 surcharge.

Maybe Jet Airways is expensive from Europe? But I did a search on the Cleartrip and the cheapest dozen prices for Toronto to Hyderabad were on Jet Airways.

I doubt indian airlines hedge fuel. Trading in oil futures is very risky for risk-averse airlines. Hence, they charge more; and sometimes the surcharges are less that the other global airlines.

Typically many US airlines hedge oil futures way into the yonder years. Sometimes they benefit. Southwest was one of those lucky ones.

Yes I flew Brussels Toronto last summer on Jetairways, but when looking for ticket to take the familly (4 pers) to India this summer a direct flight to Delhi was 1000 euro more with Jetairways only due to the surcharge. So I'm flying Swiss air. Anyway
