hello guys!!
we going to India for almost 6 months.what is the best for exchange the money?? travel cheque,amex card?? we really don`t want take cash..any one know how much is the rate to exchange travel cheque in India?? please help!

Your best rate will generally be at the same company that issued the travelers check -- if you have Thomas Cook checks, go to a Thomas Cook office; if American Express, go to an American Express office. Second best would be at a major bank: Bank of India, State Bank of India, Citibank,etc. in one of the main cities.

Be prepared to wait awhile while you cash checks. The teller will take a copy of your passport and visa (if you bring a copy, it will go faster) and sometimes they take time to check the serial numbers against the lost/stolen lists.

Change enough travelers checks in a major city (Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai,etc) to get you to the next main city.

For your hotels, you might want to use credit cards -- there will be a conversion fee but it might be worth it as you will have to carry less cash around and can use your rupees for meals,tours, souvenirs and other smaller purchases.

ATM/Cashpoints are everywhere.

I had a bad experience with an Amexco office, getting an extremely bad rate. A hassle to find the offices.

Take a travelcash-card instead.
