Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!Britishti! Your detective work shows dedication above and beyond the call of duty. If there were an Indiamike medal for conspicuous service, then surely you would have earned it. Thank you so much.
I am sorry about my late reply, but I have been relaxing on Pi Pi Island, the world’s most beautiful island (probably!) and been more occupied with sipping pina coladas and listening the the waves washing against the shore than opening the internet, whilst away. The story didn’t quite end there, because, Kumar, my guide from last year actually went to the Thai temple at Nalanda and after a conversation with a monk that he described as “a changeable and proudly monk” gave me a telephone number, right from the horses mouth, so to speak. However, when I called that number it turned out to be as useless as all the rest. But, your detective work triumphed,Britishti, in the end and your number for Nalanda actually got me through and I actually spoke to the person I wanted, in order to book accommodation at the Temple. The twist was that, after several days of effort and frustration, despite your sturdy detective work, he said that, since they knew me, it was not necessary to book. It would have been O.K just to have turned up. Oh! Well! In Thailand we say, at times like that T.I.T (This is Thailand) meaning that logic does not apply here. In India, as I recall, when we were bemused, shocked or astounded we would recite “Incredible India!” I must stay I have stayed on coral atolls in the Andaman Sea with less difficulty in communication than in Bihar. It’s a wonder to me that Birharis manage to do business or even to meet each other. Incidentally, I wonder what language you conducted your difficult conversation in; Hindi, Punjabi, English or Thai, the latter being the only one that would not be difficult, for a Thai monk. But, I guess, being stationed in India, a little English might have stuck. Anyway, once again, a million thanks for you wonderful detective work. |
