Sending demand draft to India
Hi,
I am a medical student in the UK in the process of applying to do my elective in India. As part of the application I have to post a demand draft for Rs5000 along with my application to the Indian Medical Council, via the medical school that I will be going to. I have checked with Abbey and Nationwide and they both said they couldn't do a demand draft in rupees as it is a restricted currency. Is that the same with all banks in the UK? I read some posts about the ICICI and that they have branches in the UK which could potentially do demand drafts. But would I need to have an account with them to get one? Would be grateful for any help on the subject...am getting desperate! Thanks. |

Thanks for your quick reply. Have had a look at their website but they seem to just deliver the demand draft to India. Ideally I would like to get it delivered here to me in the UK so I can then send it along with my application.

ICICI run Money2India.
It is an online service. You do not have to bank with them, but you need to have a bank with online payment facilities so that you can send the money to them. I have been using them regularly for several years for UK account to India account transfers, but they will also deliver the sum to the payee as a Demand Draft. Usually known in India as a "DD", it is the Indian equivalent of a Bank draft, or Banker's cheque Crossposted: Quote:

Thanks for your help. Just in case others ever want to know, I have figured out you can get a dmeand draft from any of the branches of the Indian banks in the UK...I just nipped into the ICICI branch in Leicester and got one without much hassle at all. Easy when you know how!
