Need Advice! - Relating to Rupee
Hi guys,
I have change around 65,000 rupee (for 2) in the last few weeks to prepare for my trip to India. Recently I realise I am not allowed to bring in any rupee to India, can I seek advise from members here what should I do?
1) Should I change my rupee but to my local currency and change it when I am in India?
2) Risk it and try to bring the rupee in? (Can I also check how strict is the custom when it come to checking for inward bound rupee?)
Thank you so much!

Option 1 is feasible but you may loose transaction charges or conversion rates.
I'd not recommend option 2. Dont risk with INDIAN customs.. Any day can be a bad day !!
Why dont u deposit it ur singapore bank account and withdraw through ATM here..there will be transaction fees but its safe...
Or get forex card /travellers cheques...

65000 is going to be a bit bulky unless they are all in 1000 rupee notes. Dont risk it.
Customs is unlikely to bother over something like 5000 which is usually enough to tide you over till you reach an ATM or a money exchange place.

Walking throught the "Green Channel" in India is probably much the same as when entereing many other countries. They will not check at all, unless they have some reason to suspect you. On the other hand, 65,000 would be viewed as a large sum...

Hi DDREN09,Are you traveling through Chennai,India??
If yes, I am interested to exchange some of your currency to Indian rupees.(But not in huge amounts)
I am collector of coins and Notes. I need your currency for my collection.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Hi,
I have still 1210 rupees (two 500rs notes, one 100rs note, one 50rs note and six 10rs notes) at home from my journey to India 2005.
Should I take them with me in November (Trivandrum Airport)?
What would happen, if they will find this amount?
Thank you in advance, Ringella

You can carry it with you. There is no restriction on carrying small amounts of indian currency.

Are there?
I thought there are no restrictions on the amounts with the poster in question and thereabouts.
