Hi everyone,
I'm quite excited about going to India. I don't mind traveling without AC or living in hostels etc.. I'm planning on staying at an ashram or 2 which my friend has recomended.. but initally i will be doing the Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh thing for about 3 months.. (planning on staying a year in total) how much money will I need for the 3 months..? Thanks for reading and your input. ![]() |

Pff. The question is not an uncommon one here, naturally. It is also and similarly by nature impossible to answer. Try this thread, and keep an eye on posting dates, that is to say it wasn't all written yesterday: India a price guide!! .

Are you looking for budget hotels, and what's your idea of budget? How do you prefer to get from place to place etc. I spend about Rs 2000 a day in Hyderabad when I stay there for business. I spent the same for a 3 day trip to Hampi including train fare and scooter rental, so about Rs 650 a day there.
You can travel fairly comfortably for about Rs 1000 a day outside of the big cities, if you stick to trains and don't spend a lot on alcohol and gifts. Remember the 180 day visa limit. You might want to plan a trip to Nepal or Sri Lanka midway through the trip. Last edited by Hal : Jul 13th, 2009 at 07:48. |
