how much for one month for 2 people?
Hello,
I read a lot of information but still have few questions: how much money should I plan to have? I'm traveling with my boyfriend for one month in October. We travelling a lot every year but this will be the first time in India. Quite excited. We will stay in private room (shared bathroom or not), eat well, don't smoke, drink but not going out, entrance fees, sleeper train, souvenirs... how much to live well without stressing out about money??? Thank you for all your help julie |

IMers would be very helpful if you gave them some more details. Where are you going? How do you plan to travel (plane/bus/train)? What kind of hotels do you plan to stay in (2-3 star, backpacking, 5 star)? India is a very big country, and your expenses will vary quite a bit depending on where you are staying and what your comfort level is. Good Luck, and please provide more details on your plan. |

budget 2 personnes, 1 month
Hello,
I'm planning to stay in clean hostel, private room with bathroom or shared one, 2 or 3 star, travelling with train, eating well with sometimes slurging....we want to see lots the place with the time we have. Not sure how to calculate all that? I know some people say that you can do it with 800-1000 rps/day/pers. but don't exatly want to be tight on the budget and check all the time how much I spend. Thank you so much for all your help |

In cities, 2/3 star hotels may set you back 2000 rupees a day or thereabouts Outside big cities, around 1000 Travelling intercity, depends how much you travel. DO look up erail.in for typical costs, suggest 3AC or 2AC for first time travellers that require basic comfort. Also suggest browse the train section here, as well as many threads on costs. First time travellers will spend more till they get the hang of it. Travelling within cities, if you take taxis, can cost anything upto 1000 a day. If autorickshaws, upto half of that. Again, depends on how much you travel, obviously. Travelling within smaller places will cost a fraction of this amount. Food in big cities, if eating in decent but inexpensive places, perhaps 250 per head per day upwards. If more upmarket resteraunts (not 5 star) with a little alcohol, maybe 800 per head per meal. In smaller places, halve this number. I would say, given on what little sense I have of your required comfort levels and off the top of my head, that excluding inter city travel and shopping, the two of you should budget for around 3500/4000 a day for big cities and around 2000 a day for smaller ones. You may well find that you spend less, but you did want not to worry about money all the time, and splurge occasionally. Given the information I have, this is the best ballpark figure I can come up with.
