If you can eat a little spicy food, in Mumbai you can easily survive on Rs. 100 for food (eat VadaPao, Veggi Wraps, Bhel, Dabeli) Basically buy from road side but decent vendors so you don't fall sick.
I am sure you can then rent a small room for Rs. 200 per night almost anywhere in outskirts of Mumbai.
100 Rs. extra for other misc expenses such as medicines/daily hygiene needs, etc.
400 Rs. a day should be good enough for a single guy.
You are lucky you are single. Don't get married and roam around the world and see the entire world in this life
LOL

Agree with awayfromhome on very, very frugal.

Also, living on a threadbare budget is easier for a few weeks or even months than it is for a year.

I hope the OP has medical and other emergencies covered.

If you called swimming every day,be at nature ,reading, writting, exercise, and lot of party and peace -nothing to do- its your way. This is the reason WHY people like me running away from europe from cities where is SO MUCH TO DO

This is Classic - People from west running from comfortable life to Bamboo huts in India and people from Bamboo huts in India dreams about rich life, car 3+1 flat Ac in Europe,Us etc...Classic

described under 'surviving' rather than 'living'. - for me its much more every day going to work, watch TV,drive a car,be on PC every day, playing video games, eat a exepensive food ,wear a expensive clothes ..this is for me surviving.
Jacob1983, what you say is classic too. Well done! ...It's nice to come across more sane people.

What an interesting thread, a topic close to my heart. (Some of which stayed in Vrindavan the first time I went there.) So...interesting, important to me.
Whatdoido, please send me PM sometime when you feel like it. - Or email if this board allows it.

I am curious what your motivation is to move to Tiruvannamalai? Sounds like you have never been there- are you just looking for a cheap place to live? Rents have risen dramatically there over the past couple of years, so if you have no other reason to go there, I would skip it!
If you are just looking for a cheap place you may be better off going to a donation only ashram and living for 200 rs or so per day.
