You have gotten some great advice already. I don't know what your motives are to move to ndia, or if you have visited before. Your budget, frankly, is very, very frugal. You will have no reserve funds for emergencies of any typr, and you will not be able to travel to any significant degree. Just a gentle bit of cautionary advice, because if things go wrong here you probably will not have a 'support system' to help you. Good luck with everything, and I hope you are able to fulfill your dream! |

but its not as crazy as being in america with 3000 dollars yes you can open an ebay account, start a buisness ect. there will be endless challenges but the cost of living is low so you have room for making mistakes frugal living is low $60 a month frugal travel is $140 a month (if you have people to split the auto riksha bill but rent your own room) All you need is connections The hotel clerk can help yu find so many things but chances are he wont save you any money you need reliable contacts among locals and travelers |

how - 70rs per room - toilet and shower outside,80 for food.Chai, watter, basic food from market -bread,vegatables. etc....and I have a good time, every day swiming,party,books...fun..but its like for a month..couse you are eating more or less same food. ok I was only walking max took a local bus to Anjuna etc..Vagator..Or friend took me by the bike..so no traveling etc..just stayed in a one place is possible with this kind of money.. That is my exprience and opinion..Every body is same same but differant so...for somebody it can be like no money. |

I guess it's doable in the south on 3K USD/year, provided you stay away from the cities and live a VERY frugal life, like renting a room in a village where there's absolutely nothing to do and eating nothing but dal/rice/roti or veg thalis every day. For me that lifestyle would get very old, very quick b/c in my thesaurus it's described under 'surviving' rather than 'living'. But if you manage to do it AND have a good time, more power to you!
Whatever you do, don't try to save by not taking out medical insurance. If the proverbial poop hits the fan you'll be glad you spent the extra $. |

QUOTE FROM DILLICHAAT- you stay away from the cities and live a VERY frugal life, like renting a room in a village where there's absolutely nothing to do and eating nothing but dal/rice/roti
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you called swimming every day,be at nature ,reading, writting, exercise, and lot of party and peace -nothing to do- its your way. This is the reason WHY people like me running away from europe from cities where is SO MUCH TO DO This is Classic - People from west running from comfortable life to Bamboo huts in India and people from Bamboo huts in India dreams about rich life, car 3+1 flat Ac in Europe,Us etc...Classic described under 'surviving' rather than 'living'. - for me its much more every day going to work, watch TV,drive a car,be on PC every day, playing video games, eat a exepensive food ,wear a expensive clothes ..this is for me surviving. Take care .

Jacob, some of us have outgrown the "how cheap can you do it" stage though.
It helps for instance to pay some attention to what a poster asked for, and to see what you can glean from that what *they* (not: *you*) may be looking for.

In Vrindavan you can easily stay in a nice room in the old part of town (the more romantic, nicer part) for less than 100 Rs per day. You can arrange to get your food at a temple, for little money, and good food that is. You can change temples to get different varieties of food. Get to know the pujaris (temple priests) of Radha-Raman, and you can eat the rich prasad from their altar for free whenever you are invited.
check out this post for details. Place to stay Vrindavan To renew your visa you could go via Gorakhpur into Nepal, stay a while for free ( a donation) in the Korean monastery in Lumbini before going to Kathmandu. details here: pokhra trip $3000 would be more than enough to stay in a place like Vrindavan or Tiruvannamalai. And you would still experience some modest luxuries, if this combination of terms is permitted. ![]() |
