Chinese UnionPay bank (ATM) card use in India

I would like to use my Chinese UnionPay bank card issued by ICBC (Industrial and Construction Bank of China) to withdraw cash (Rupees) from ATMs when we visit Delhi, Agra & Varanasi next month. Does anyone know if this will work? What is the max one can withdraw per day?

Thanks!

Depends on what "network" this card is on. If it's a Visa or MasterCard, it will probably work... but I always take a backup card.

Maximum withdrawal depends on the bank machine you use.

Wonderwomanusa--thanks for your reply.

Our card is neither VISA nor MasterCard. It is UnionPay debit card.

Thanks.

I have seen most Bank ATM's aligned to Visa or Master in India. Not seen a single one with Union Pay... I dont think your card will work

UnionPay debit card is most likely not going to work in ATMs in India!

I found an article in Wiki about UnionPay cards..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_UnionPay

It says the UnionPay Credit cards are affiliated with Mastercard or Visa but the Debit card works on the UnionPay network only !!

Better call your bank and confirm about this card!

sarkar--thank you so much for the info and the link. It is better to know IN ADVANCE that our China card will not work in India so we can find an alternative way to access our money.
