Best UK bank to use whilst in India
Best UK bank to use whilst in India
Hi all!
I am finally heading out to India at the end of August! Really excited and just had a quick question about bank accounts. I currently have a Natwest student account, will this be easily accessible from India? (i have heard that Natwest may be one of the worst?) If not, which bank will i have most success with? HSBC? Lloyds?
Not sure if it makes much difference but I will be in Mcloed Ganj for the first month and then travelling around (mainly northern India) for the remainder of my 3 month trip.
Any advice or suggests would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
ps: sorry if this has already been asked, I did a search and could only find threads about opening an indian bank account in India.

I've heard that Nat West is the best one to use when traveling in India. Apparently their fees are a lot lower than other banks.Don't mean to threadjack, but which would be the best bank to use if living in Canada, and planning to travel in India?

For me, HSBC worked perfect for withdrawing money from India, transferring money to my offshore account.
Take a little cash too, in case you get settled in a remote part of Himalaya's where there are no banks.
Where are you heading after D'sala? you could go to Rewalsar Lake 1hr from Mandi then to Shimla take the toy train to Chandigarh then Haridwar/Rishikesh.

If you plan to use a credit card the UK Post Office offer a Mastercard that does not charge extra for non UK transactions and actually charges a fair exchange rate. I have used it in India and other places over the last 3 years with no problems. Just tell them where you are going before you travel.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
