Unhappy Are you comfortable travelling with a little extra money?

Hi All,

Nothing new.

In small towns in India, hotels don't accept card, and even shops dont seem to accept cards easily. Hence, i find myself travelling with a vad of cash.

this has its own problems.

Are you comfortable travelling with cash..say abt Rs. 25000. Do you put it in a bag, and keep it under your head and sleep.

i am always suspicious of hotel staff, can't leave all that money in the hotel room when i go sight seeing.

I faced this in Ranthambhore this year and beforehand I was quite concerned about it. I even thought I'd pay the hotel up front after just one night if I liked the place just to ditch the money - actually this was the suggestion of another IMer.

I had to draw out enough money for both Ranthambhore and beyond to cover the next 7 days. I slept on an overnight train for the first night, although in 1AC so it was quite safe.

I used a normal money belt beneath my clothes and was never concerned at any point about the amount of money I was carrying.
Actually the safety of my cameras was of more concern.

When I had a chance, like on safari in Ranthambhore, I took my money belt off and put it in another bag making me a bit cooler.
